B. KILBO'URN.
Stove Pipe Shelf.
No.,23l ,9l5. Patented Sept. 7,1880.
.WITNES s INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BEEGHER KILBOURN, OF WEST WINFIELD, NEW YORK.
STOVE-PIPE SH ELF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,915, dated September 7, 1880.
Application filed March 10, 1880. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BEECHER KILBOURN, of West Winfield, in the county of Herkimer, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in StovePipe Shelves, of which the following is a true and exact description, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view, showing the blank partly formed, and Fig. 2 a perspective view, showing the finished shelf in position. Fig. 3 is aview of the blank ready for the folds forming the braces or bracket to be struck down. Fig. 4 is the same with some of the braces struck.
The device is formed of sheet metal, and is held securely to the pipe in any desired position by a suitable clamp.
In carrying out my invention I employ a rectangular sheet-metal blank in one piece, and by striking up the same in suitable niachinery and peculiarly cutting and shaping one of its longitudinal edges and bending portions of the metal first downward and then upward upon itself, I form a shelf adapted to be secured to a stove-pipe, the inner edge,
which embraces a portion of the pipe, and the outer edge being concentric with each other, and the downwardly-extendin g portions, which are bent upon each other, serving as bracketbraces to bear against the pipe and hold the shelf horizontally on the one hand and strengthen it throughout its radial area on the other. The blank is perforated in such a manner that an aperture is provided entirely through each bracket-brace adapted to receive a tie or clamp, preferably having a threadand-nut securing and tighteningconnection. Theseoperations- 'i. 6., cutting, striking up, and perforating-an ay be performed atoneor differentmanipulations. The outer edge may be headed or turned down, as desired. 'They may be formed of any size and adapted to suit any pipe.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the blank, consisting of the portions B, which retain the orignal plane of the blank, and the portions G, which are bentdownward and then upward upon themselves to form the bracketbraces D. To form a proper elbow-bearin g for these brackets against the pipe, the inner longitudinal edge of the blank has V-shaped projections E, which are perforated at eto receive a metal strip, rod, or wire, F, which passes through each bracket or rib, surrounds the pipe, and is provided with a thI'eadand-nut connection, f, by which the shelf is adjustably secured to the pipe in any position desired. 00 represents the pipe.
[ claim as my invention- 1. A shelf formed of one piece of sheet metal, bent upon itself, as shown, to form strengthening-ribs, and adapted to serve relatively to a stove-pipe and suitable securing means as set forth.
2. A shelf formed of one piece of sheet metal, bent upon itself, as shown, to form strengthening-ribs, and having V-shaped projections to furnish elbow-bearing against a stove-pipe, combined with said pipe and suitable securing means, as herein specified.
3. A shelf formed of one piece of metal having V-shaped projections, bent upon itself, as shown, to form strengthening-ribs having vertical elbow-bearin gs, and perforated to receive a tie or band-clam p adapted to serve relatively to said clamp and a stove-pipe, as herein specitied.
4. The combination of the shelf formed of one piece of sheet metal, A, having perforated V-shaped projections E c and strengthening bracket-braces D, with the band-clamp F, having thread-and-nut connection f, the whole adapted to serve relatively to a stove-pipe, w, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at- Winfield, this 20th day of February, 1880, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
