Description

H. R. FORD.
REVERSIBLE HANGING SHELF.
APPLICATION FILED OCT-6.19M.
v 1 ,270 ,7 1 8 Patented June 25, 1918.
HARRY R. FORD, 0F JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
REVERSIBLE HANGING SHELF.
I Application filed October 6, 1917.
It all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY R. Form, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reversible Hanging Shelves, of which the following is a specification. 4
This invention relates to improvements in shelves, and has for its object to simplify and improve the existing art-by producing a shelf constructed from a single piece of suitable metal, bent upon itself to provide the supporting brackets, and further bent to provide reinforcing lips and flanges, se-- curing elements passing through certain of the flanges for retaining the shelf upon a support.
A further object of the invention is to produce a metallic shelf having its ends integrally formed with brackets, the arrangement being such that the shelf may be hung reversely, that is, so that either of the faces of the st: elf proper may provide the support for devices arranged thereon.
I accomplish the foregoing objects by a construction such as is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and in which drawigure 1 is a perspective view of a shelf constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view but illustrating the shelf in a reverse position with respect to the showing in Fig.1.
Fig. 3 is .an approximately 'entral sectional view through the device a; illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view of the blank from whlch the shelf is formed.
My improved reversible shelf is constructed from a single sheet of some suitable metal, or other bendable material, shaped to provide the shelf proper, designated by the character 5, the depending sides forming the brackets 6, the inner edges of both the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Serial No. 195,096.
1 shelf and the brackets being provided with outturned flanges 7 and 8 respectively, one or both of which having suitable spaced orifices through which is designed to pass the sustaining elements 9 that are driven or screwed in the support 10 against which the shelf is arranged.
The outer edges of the brackets 6 are formed with inturned flanges 11, and the outer edge of the shelf 5 is formed with a flange or lip 12, the said angular flanges 11 and 12 materially reinforcing the construction, while the flange or lip 12 for the shelf 5 provides a means for retaining articles upon the shelf, when the said shelf is arranged in a position illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawin s.
n Fig. 4 of the drawings there is illustrated a blank from which the shelf is formed, the score lines indicating the bends, and by reference to all of the figures of the drawi gs, it will be noted that the outer and anged edge of the side and bracket 6 are dis osed at an angle with respect to the remainder of the construction.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A reversible shelf including a straight surface providing the shelf proper and having its opposite edges flanged in opposite directions, bracket members formed at the ends of the shelf and havingtheir oppositeedges flanged in opposite directions and the inner fl anges of the device-having openings to receive sustainin elements.
2. A reversible shelf constructed from a.
single sheet of flat metal bent upon itself to provide end brackets, the outer edges of the brackets being inclined and having inturned flanges, the rear edges of the brackets having out-turned flanges provided with perforations. and the shelf between the brackets having its edges flanged in 0)1)0Sif6 directions and its inner flange per orated.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HARRY R. FORD.
