SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,029, dated August 10, 1880.

Application filed April 22, 1880.

To all whom zt may concern Be it known that I, JACOB H. FLEIsGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the'county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in'Neckscarfs, of which the fol lowing is a specification.

My invention relates to that class of neckscarfs that have front aprons and a narrow neckband, and the object of my invention is to construct a neatly-fitting neekscarf of this character that, in combination with peculiar connections and fastenings, is adjustable to any sized neck, and that will maintain the appearance of a neckscarf having a narrow neckband, front cross-aprons, and central shield.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 represents a neckscarf entirely open. Fig, 2 is the same closed with a pivoted separable clasp, the dotted lines showing the direction in which the front aprons can be moved. Fig. 3 represents a neckscarf of the ordinary cross apron style,without any separate central shield. Fig. 4 is the reverse of a neckscarf of this character.

The blank being out of required configuration, itis lined and sewed together. For some descriptions I place an interior stiffener substantially of the shape shown by dotted lines, Fig. 1, S.

The whole scarf is placed round the neck and the two aprons A are crossed over the chest in front.

For connecting together the two front aprons and operating them as hereinafter described, I employ a separable clasp, B, consisting of front and rear disks, one of which carries a central notched solid post, which is passed within a hollow stem on the other disk and engages therein with a catch of suitable construction. The two parts are thus locked together, but can be disengaged by means of external pushers or handles adjusted so that by their movement the engaging-catch can be withdrawn.

Preferably the eyelet-holes should pass entirely through all the layers of the front apron,

in which case only the main fabric of the under apron would require to be pierced and the outer lining would be left intact, as shown in Fig. 4. When so constructed the front disk of the pivoted separable clasp B would be finished so as to represent an ordinary scarfpin or similar ornament; but I do not desire to limit myself to this exact manner of con nection, as it is obvious that, without departing from the scope of my invention, the front apron may be only partially pierced and the rear one entirely through all its layers or folds, and but one disk be located outside the lining of the rear apron.

In this modification the front apron will show unbroken fabric, so that an ornamental pin can be worn or dispensed with.

in either mode of connection the aprons of the scarf can be turned upon the pivoted posts of the clasp B, which rotates within the eye let-holes b, and the neck-opening will be increased or diminished proportionately to the ratio of divergenceas, for instance, suppose the opening illustrated on Fig. 4 should represent a fourteen and a half inch neckband, the same scarf, by divergence of the aprons until they assume the position represented in Fig. 3, would form a seventeen and a half inch neckband, the intermediate sizes being secured by moving the aprons at various degrees of divergence.

What I claim is 1. A neckscarf having a narrow band, a, and front aprons, A, the upper inner sides of which are supplied with internal stiffeners, S substantially as described.

2. A neckscarf having front aprons, A, provided with upper internal stitfeners, S, and with eyelet-holes b, substantially as described, as and for the purpose set forth.
