Description
' P. WARNER. Mechanic's Home.
No. 226,43 1.- Patented April 13,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB F. WARNER, OF ELKHART, INDIANA.
MECHANICS HORSE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 226,431, dated April 13, 1880. Application filed December 18, 1879.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ACOB F. WARNER, of Elkhart, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanics Horses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to theaccom panying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of a pair of my improved mechanical horses in position for operation. Fig. 2 is a side view of one of the horses, and Fi 3 is a vertical sectional Vl6\ of the same.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to an improved mechanical horse which shall be capable of being used in a variety of ways-for instance, as a support for scaffolding, as a saw-horse,
or as a support for signs, blinds, doors, 850.,
while being painted or decorated, as will be hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the body of my improved horse, which is provided at each end with metallic sockets B B, to receive the legs 0 O, which diverge from each other, as shown, so as to form supports for the body. The legs are held in position by keys or pins D passing through transverse perforations in the upper ends of the legs and the sockets.
The bodyAis provided with a longitudinal horizontal slot, E, to accommodate two bolts, F F, provided with thumbnuts G G, by which they may be adjusted at any desired point in said slot.
H H are two metallic plates having slots I I, by which they slide upon the bolts F, upon which they may be adjusted in any desired position by tightening the thumb-nuts G. For additional security they are also provided with hooks J J, which may be adjusted in any one of a series of openings, K K, in the body A.
In Fig. l of the drawings the slides H H are shown to be set in a slanting position, parallel to and a short distance from each other. When two horses with the slides in this position are placed a suitable distance apart, as shown, they form a convenient support for signs, doors, or other articles while being painted or decorated. In Fig. 2 the slides are set vertically. as when used for a saw-horse. Instead of either of these ways, the slides may be laid down flat, or adjusted in a variety of ways for a variety of purposes.
By detaching the legs my improved horse may be packed up and stored away in very small space. i
The device is simple, and may be manufactured easily and at small expense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States As an improvement in mechanical horses, the combination of the slotted body A, having socket-s B B, detachable. legs 0 O, adjustable slides H H, and hooks J J, all arranged and operating substantially asand for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J AGOB FREDRIGK WARNER.
Witnesses:
JOHN H. STAGG, J. H. HUTGHISON.
