OHA RLES' A. RIGHTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTON-CARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,358, dated November 4, 1879; application filed September 5, l879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. RIGHTER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Button-Gard, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a plan view of one of my improved button-cards. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a part of the same, showing a different arrangement of the buttons.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved card for use in putting up buttons I for market, which shall be so made that several different styles of buttons may be attached to the same card in such a way that all or any desired part of either style may be detached without interfering with either of the others.
The invention consists in a button-card havin g wings or flaps projecting from its sides to receive the buttons, as hereinafter 'fully described.
Iu'this example of my improvement the card consists of a central square, A, having a wing, B, formed upon each of its four sides, the card thus having the form of an equal-armed cross.
The wings B may be made square, and of such a size as to receive, say, three dozen of buttons; but the wings B may be made larger or smaller, and of any desired shape, and may have a greater or less supply of buttons, as
desired. The wings B are also designed to be perforated between each row of a dozen buttons, O, and also to be perforated along the edges of the central square, A, to facilitate the detachment of the buttons, as required.
The buttons 0 may be attached to the wings B parallel with the edges of the square A, as shown in Fig. 1, or at right angles with the said edges, as shown in Fig. 2, or otherwise, as may be desired. I prefer the arrangement first mentioned, as it allows the buttons to be detached with a little more,facility.-
With this construction either of the styles may be detached, in part or the whole, without interfering with the others.
The central square, A, may, when desired, receive an ornamental picture, a trade-mark, or advertisen'ient.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and 'desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improved article of manufacture, a button-card formed of a central square or portion, A, having wings B upon its sides to receive the buttons 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
CHARLES A. RIGHTEB.
