Description

Ju ly 30, 1 M. sEsum LIPSTICK HOLDER AND SHARPENER Filed Feb. 14, 1939 lnvenio r Attorneys By I Patented July 30, 1940 PATENT OFFICE LIPSTICK HOLDER AND SHARPENER Maurice Sguin, Kirkland Lake, Ontario,
Canada Application February 14, 1939, Serial No. 256,338
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to lipstick holders and has for its primary object to provide a cap for the holder into which the end of the lipstick may be inserted, together with means for compressing the lipstick within the cap whereby to maintain the desired tapered end on the lipstick for properly applying the same. I
A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part thereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing the holder and sharpening cap in assembled position.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the holder with the cap removed, and
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the plunger for the holder.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the holder preferably formed of a solidified plastic material, such as Bakelite or the like, and of cylindrical form, and embodying a reduced lower end 6. The holder 5 and reduced end portion 6 is open throughout and fitted in the lower end of the reduced end portion 6 is the lipstick rouge 1 formed of the usual solidified composition.
The upper portion of the holder 5 is internally threaded as shown at B for threadedly receiving a feeder 9 having an operating head ill at its outer end and having its inner end formed with a smooth cylindrical plunger ll adapted to have a working fit in the reduced extension 6. An extension I2 projects axially from the inner end of the plunger ll adapted for embedding in the adjacent end of the rouge I, the extension l2 being in the form ofa substantially flattened ellipse in cross section to maintain the lipstick against rotation relative to the feeder.
The lower end of the lipstick is conical as shown at [3 and adapted to conformably fit within the conical end portion M of a cap l5 which is telescopically fitted on the reduced end portion 6 of the holder.
. A pin l6 projects radially from the side wall of the reduced end portion 5 of the holder for interlocking engagement in the bayonet slot ll formed in the upper edge of the cap l5.
In the operation of the device it will be apparent that when the cap !5 is placed in position on the holder as shown in Figure 1, the feeder 9 may be threaded downwardly into the holder to cause a compressing action of the tapered end portion I3 of the lipstick into the end of the cap l4 whereby to reshape the tip end of the lipstick into the desired form for conveniently applying the same.
The cap l5 may be formed of glass in order that the color or shade of the lipstick may be observed without the necessity of removing the cap from the holder.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the claim is A lipstick holder comprising atubular member reduced in diameter from an intermediate point thereon to provide large and small ends on the same and a circumferential shoulder intermediate said ends, the bore of said member being internally threaded throughout the large end and reduced in diameter and smooth throughout the invention, what I small end, a lipstick fitted into the bore in the small end for adjustment longitudinally into and out of the same and having a pointed outer end portion extending out of said small end, a feeder plug extending through the bore in the large end and having a threaded part for turning in the threads of said large end, and a reduced part fitting into the bore of the small end to bear against the rear end of said stick, a fiat prong extending from the reduced part of said plug into the rear end of the stick whereby turning of the feeder plug in opposite directions adjusts the stick inwardly and outwardly, a sleeve-like cap fitting over said reduced end of the memberagainst said shoulder and having a conical socket therein for fitting over the pointed outer end portion of 'said stick, and means to detachably secure said cap to said small end of said member.
