This invention relates to an apparatus for shaving or cutting hair, and has for one of its objects to provide a novel device by means of which hair, growing in parts of the human body ordinarily not accessible, or diiiicult to reach, such as the blade are of 'such shape and proportions as tok permit and facilitate its use, not only in remote external parts of the body, but in passages and cavities thereof, which maybe irregular in shape or small in size. The devices hitherto known for shaving purposes are not adapted for the said mentioned uses, due either to their basic dimensions or shape.
The apparatus of this invention is a self contained, complete razor, but it may be utilized as an accessory to safety razors of conventional design, and a further object contemplates a head, blade and holder of such shape and dimensions as will permit utilization of ahollow handle or holder for the usual type of safety razor as a case or container for the device of the present invention.
The structure may include an integral holder and head, with removable means for blade re-V placement, or the head `may be made separable from the handle; in fact, various modifications inthe construction, shape, style and design to accord with desired uses are contemplated, several being described herein.
To the attainment of the above and other objects,` whichwill appear as the description pro-l ceeds, reference may be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:-

Referring more specifically to the drawing in which like reference numerals designate like parts, it will be observed that the apparatus em bodying the invention comprises generally a hold- 15 er 20, partly knurled to forma grip for a handle portion 2l and rounded at one end.
Extending from the handle portion is a neck portion 22 which terminates in the lower part 23 of the razor head which may or may not be made. 20 integral with the neck. I'he lower part of the head is grooved or fluted externally throughout its depth, the grooves 24 being equally spaced and equally deep and the sides of each groove or flute converging toward the neck 22.
This lower part of the head may be formed so that the contour of its cross-sectional areaI -through its depth may be oval, half oval, circular, half circular or triangular in shape. In fact, any .convenient shape necessary to the required 30 uses of the device may be utilized.
The face or'blade seating surface of the lower part of the head therefore will be shaped similarly to conform its sectional contour to adapt it for reception of the particular/shape of cutting blade. It will be observed that the area of the blade seating surface comprises a substantially lcentral at portion 25 which merges into a gradual outward sloping portion inclining toward the fluted portions 26.
The lower part of the head, which forms with the clamping screw, hereinafter mentioned, the entire head of the razor, may be formed in any desired shape as mentioned above, but inclined at 45 any angle with the horizontal longitudinal axis.
The clamping screw 21 is formed with an undercut, or dished surface conforming generally to -the portions 25-26 of the lower part of the head,
this surface being flattened and inclined out- 50 wardly in such a manner as to form a perfect seat. or receptor space for the blade. This screw is also provided with a threaded stem 28 which enters a correspondingly threaded. central opening 29 in the neck 22. It will be understood that 55 the blade 30 will be clamped between the head portion 23 and the underside of the screw 21.
The blade 3D is of generally annular shape and dished to provide areas 3| and 32 conforming generally to the portions 25-26 of the head. The angle of inclination in the bladeis, however, somewhat smaller than the angle of the surface of the lower part of the head, so that when the apparatus is assembled for use there will be a slight space between the blade and said lower surface, thereby giving the necessary tilt to the blade for an effective cutting angle.
It is not essential thatthe head of the razor be integral with the neck of the holder, and Fig.
illustrates one form of the invention in which the neck 22 is shortened, to be completed by an 'extension 33 which may be formed integral with the lower portion of the head as indicated at 34. In this form the stem 28 of the clamping screw will extend freely through the portions 33 and 34 to engage the threaded interior of the neck 22.
There is illustrated in Figs. '7 and 8 a modified form of clamping screw which however, as in the case of the element 21, functions to complete the head of the razor. This modified screw 35` is constructed substantially as the screw 21 but with curved grooves or flutes 36 traversing substantially the entire head surface, The grooves may stop in the proximity of the screw or may extend over the entire head surface.
Fig. 9 illustrates a slight modification in the head of the razor from that illustrated-in Fig. l, in which` the clamping screw 31 is of lesser diameter than the lower portion 23 of the head, the remainder of the assembly being structurally the same.
These modifications in clamping screw and head structure are advantageous in particular types of work to which the razor is adaptable.
Figs. 11 and 12 illustrate a blade 38 having a substantially oval coniiguration, Fig. 13 showing a blade 39 modified in configuration from the oval idea and Fig. 14 illustrating a three-sided arched blade Ml. Obviously the particular shape of the blade can be carried out to such shapes as a pear, half circular, or any other desired configuration, vithout departing from the spirit of the invent on.
While it is contemplated that an assembly of this nature may be made and used as a complete entity, it may be found desirable to utilize same as an attachment or accessory for the conventional type of safety razor kit now on the market, and to this end, as illustrated in Fig. 15, the usual holder 4I has its handle or grip portion 42 hollowed out and left open at the end. The external diameter of the head 23 and clamping screw 21, as well as the external diameter of the handle portion 2i, will be proportioned to substantially equal the internal diameter of the handle portion 42, whereupon the entire assembly 20 may be frictionally fitted into said portion 42, which thereupon functions as a carrying case, without in any way detracting from or affecting the use of the holder lil- 42 in its usual manner with a conventional razor head.
In lother words, as will be evident from the drawing the head and blade of each form of the invention is symmetrical and the greatest axis of symmetry substantially approximates, in extent, the transverse axis of the holder. This offers in addition to the advantages of permitting insertion within cavities of the ear or nose, the additional advantage specifically shown in Fig. 15, of inserting the entire device, head and handle, within the hollow grip portion or handle for another razor as described above.
Having thus described the invention, the use and operation thereof will be readily apparent. To assemble the apparatus, a blade will be iitted over the stem of the clamping screw which will be threaded home into the neck of the holder and the apparatus is ready for use, which use consists generally in inserting the head in the particular cavity and. withdrawing same to shave or cut hair growing therein.
While selected embodiments of the invention have been illustrated and described herein, it is not intended that same shall be considered as limiting, other than as defined in the appended claims, many variations in size, shape and use being within the range of the herein described invention. For example, while the device has been particularly described as of a shape and size well adapted to use internally of cavities in the human body, it is quite evident that by slight change in size, the device will lend itself to use in other no-rmally inaccessible parts of the human body as under the arms.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a fiuted portion converging from a point adjacent the blade into said holder, and a blade clamping screw threaded into said head.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a iiuted portion converging from a point adjacent the blade into said holder, and a blade clamping screw threaded therein, said blade being shaped to encompass said screw between the head of the screw and said fiuted portion.
3. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a fluted portion converging from a point adjacent the blade into said holder, and formed with a generally convex seat for the blade, and a blade clamping screw threaded into said head.
4. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a uted portion converging from a point adjacent the blade into said holder, and formed with a generally convex seat for the blade, said seat having a centrally disposed flat area merging into an outwardly inclined area, and a blade clamping screw threaded into s aid head, at a point substantially centrally of said fiat area.
5. A device of the class described comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and size d to conform to predetermined characteristics of cavities and a cutting blade carried by said head,
' said head comprising a guard portion having utes disposed about the axis of the head and extending substantially longitudinally thereof, and a blade clamping screw threaded into the guard portion, internally of its fluted periphery.
6. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a iiuted portion converging from a point adjacent the blade into said holder, and a blade clampingv screw threaded into said head, said screw having flutes disposed about its exterior and conforming to those of said uted head portion.
7. A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conform to predetermined characteristics of acavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, and a blade clamping screw threaded into said head, said screw having flutes exteriorly disposed about its axis, said flutes extending substantially longitudinally thereof, and the walls thereof tapering inwardly from a point adjacent the blade toward said holder.4

A razor comprising a holder terminating in a symmetrical head comprising a cap and guard shaped to conform to predetermined characteristics of aural and nasal cavities of a human i body, whereby it may enter substantially cornpletely within such cavities, said head having its greatest axis of symmetry approximating in extent the transverse axis of the holder.
9. A razor comprising a holder terminating in a symmetrical head comprising a cap and guard, shaped to conform to predetermined characteristics of aural and nasal cavities of a human body, whereby it may enter substantially completely within such cavities, said head having its greatest axis of symmetry approximating in extent the transverse axis of the holder, and a substantially cylindrical case therefor having a transverse diameter slightly in excess of the said axis of symmetry of said head.

A device of the class described, comprising a holder terminating in a head of generally circular shape in cross section, and having a substantially convex blade seating surface, a cutting blade carried by said head and conforming to the shape thereof, a blade clamping screw extending through said cutting blade, and aguard for said blade tapering from a point adjacent the blade inwardly to said holder.

A razor, shaped and sized to enter aural and nasal cavities of the human body comprising a holder terminating in a head of generally trlangular shape in cross section, and having a substantially convex blade seating surface, a cutting blade carried by said head and conforming to the shape thereof, a blade clamping screw extendingthrough said cutting blade, and a guard for said blade tapering from a point adjacent the blade inwardly to said holder.

A razor, shaped and sized to enter aural and nasal cavities of the human body, comprising a holder terminating in a head of generally oval shape in cross section, and having a substantially convex blade seating surface, a cutting blade carried by said head and conforming to the shape thereof, a blade clampingscrew extending through said cutting blade, and a guard for said blade tapering from a point adjacent the blade inwardly to said holder.
16. A device of the class described comprising a holder terminating in a head shaped and sized to conformto predetermined characteristicsof a cavity of the human body, whereby it may enter completely within such cavity and a cutting blade carried by said head, said head comprising a uted portion converging from a point adjacent HENRY SIEMINSm.
