Description
April 7, 1964 cs. L. JOHNSON 3,127,676
SAFETY RAZOR Filed July 2 1961 s U M I 5 5 ga INV R Grudy Joh son JQCW? m W J M NEY v United States Patent 3,127,676 SAFETY RAZOR Grady L. Johnson, 619 W. Howard Ave., Decatur, Ga. Filed July 21, 1961, Ser. No. 126,812 2 Claims. (Cl. 30-49) The invention relates to safety razors and has for an object to provide a safety razor adapted for use with and having a thin flat annular blade, which has many advantages over the straight edge blade in common use, such for example as having no sharp corners, conforming to the irregularities of the face of the shaver, for better shaving, etc. Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter or will be obvious.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of pants hereinafter set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
FIGURE 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.
'FIGURE 3 is an exploded perspective view of the inven-tion.
FIGURE 4 is a section on the line 44, FIGURE 2.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the thin flat flexible annular blade, the inner rim of which has an annular series of V-form notches 2 said blade being adapted to be clamped between the head and cap members of the razor to be described into frusto-conical form, for shaving. 5 designates the circular head member of the razor having an inner circumferential depressed seat 5, within which said blade is adapted to closely fit so that the inner wall 7 of said seat will close the open ends of the V-form notches 2 and abut against the inner rim 8 of said blade, said seat being adapted to center the blade with respect to said head member, which has an outer circumferential toothed guard portion 5'', located below and immediately beyond said seat. Said head member has a central handle 9, at right angles thereto provided at its upper end portion with a longitudinal bore 6, opening into the top of said head member which has an unobstructed smooth top surface 4', located between said seat and the open end of said bore.
The circular cap member 3 of the razor has a circumferential downwardly extending rim portion 3" of greater diameter than and when assembled with the head member located immediately beyond said seat of the head member, said cap member having a central stub shaft 4, at right angles thereto having screw threaded engagement with said bore, for clamping the blade 2 between the head and cap member and deforming the blade into frustoconical form for shaving purposes.
The right is reserved to modifications coming within the scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. A safety razor for a thin fiat flexible annular blade, comprising a circular head member having an inner circumferential depressed seat within which said blade is adapted to fit so that the inner wall of said seat will close the open ends of V-form notches in and abut against the inner rim of said blade, said seat being adapted to center the blade with respect to said head member, said head member having an outer circumferential toothed guard portion located below and immediately beyond said sea-t, said head member having a handle at right angles thereto provided at its upper end portion with a longitudinal bore, opening into the top of said head member, which has an unobstructed smooth top surface located between said seat and the open end of said bore, and a circular cap member having a circumferential downwardly extending rim portion of greater diameter than that of, and located immediately beyond said seat, said cap member having a central stub shaft at right angles thereto having screw-threaded engagement with said bore, for clamping the blade between the head and cap members and deforming the blade into frusto-com'cal form for shaving purposes.
2. A safety razor, comprising a circular head member having an inner circumferential depressed seat for a thin flat flexible annular blade and an outer circumferential toothed guard portion of greater diameter than that of, and located immediately beyond said seat, said head member having a handle at right angles thereto provided at its upper end portion with a longitudinal bore opening into the top of said head member which has an unobstructed smooth top surface located between said seat and the open end of said bore, and a circular cap member having a circumferential downwardly extending rim of the same width as that of and located immediately beyond said seat, said cap member having a central stub shaft at right angles thereto having screw-threaded engagement with said bore.
