Description

H. B. STILLMAN. Globe-Holder for Gas-Fixtures.
No. 220,504. Patented Occ.14,1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY B. STILLMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOBE-HOLDERS FOR GAS-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 220,504, dated October 14, 1879; application filed March 1, 1879.
i made of wire and also of sheet metal.
The present invention relates to a holder of sheet metal, in which the rings and arms are of one piece, and the arms are bent at right angles to the plane of the ring, and each arm is in a radial plane having the gas-burner for its center, and hence but little shadow is cast by the arm, and the arm can be ornamental, being cut out by dies while in the flat sheet at the same time as the ring.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the form in which the blank is cut out from the sheet metal. Fig. 2 is a plan, and Fig. 3 is a side View, of the globe 'holder.
The ring a, arms b b b, and ornaments c c c are all cut out of flat sheet metal, the ring a being of a size to fit over the screw of the gaspipe and be held by the burner, and the arms I) being of the proper length, and the ornaments 0 of the desired appearance.
The metal at the junction of the arms and ring is twisted or bent so that each arm stands vertically in a radial plane. The lower edges of the globe rest in the notches or offsets at e, and the portion 1' forms a nut for the screw k, that holds the globe-base in the usual manner.
By this improvement the ring and arms are of one piece of metal instead of being separate, as heretofore. The arms do not cast any shadow, and the upper ends of the arms can be nearer together or farther apart to suit different sizes of globes.
I claim as my invention- The globe-holder having ring and arms of one piece of sheet metal, the metal of the arms being twisted at the junction with the ring, and the arms occupying vertical radial planes, substantially as specified.
Signed by me this 24th day of February, A. D. 1879.
HENRY B. STILLMAN.
