IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINATION WRITING-DESK AND SEWING-MACHINE CABINET.

My invention relates to sewing-machine cabi-.
nets; and it consists in combining therewith lH L ,drop, on which the machine is secured, and a removable frame with sliding desk, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which in yinvention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
A represents a sewing-machine cabinet provided with doors B B and a series of drawers, 0 G, as shown. In the top of the cabinet is a hinged part or drop, F, which is fastened by a latch, h, to hold the samein place in the top.
In this drop F is an opening, a, over which the machine is to be placed andfastened in the usual manner.
It is,of course, understood that the usual treadles, balance-wheel, 8pc, are to be used.
When the machine is not to be used the drop F is let down, so that the machine itself will be entirely out ofsight and below the top of the cabinet.
D represents the writing-desk, consisting of a suitable box-frame with hinged top. In the lower edges of the sides of the desk are made longitudinal grooves x, which fit over tongues b, made on the side pieces of a frame, G, placed on the cabinet-top and fastened by means of pins GjtDQfi lIQQIQYZ, as shown in Fig. 2. The desk D can be drawn forward a certain distance for use to accommodate the writer.
When the desk is in place the remainder of the top of the cabinetforms aconvenient worktable. 1
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a sewing machine cabinet, of the hinged drop F, supporting the machine, the tongued frame detachably connected to the cabinet over the drop, and the sliding desk D, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
