Description

Ma rch 28, 1939. URBON 2,152,575
GARMENT Filed Oct. 13, 1938 Patented Mar. 28, 1 939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garments.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a garment for men wherein a waist-coat or the like has a multiple separable fastener connection with the waist line of a pair of trousers with the trousers supported in position on the wearer without the necessity of providing trousers supporters such as suspenders or a waist line belt.
A further and important object of the invention is to provide a combination garment of the foregoing character wherein the multiple separable fasteners are arranged in cooperating pairs on the waist line of the trousers and on the waist line of the jacket or waist-coat with the two multiple separable fasteners carried by the waist line of the trousers being sufliciently spaced at adjacent ends at the back of the waist line of the trousers whereby suitable alterations in the waist line measurements of the trousers may be made without disturbing the multiple separable fasteners, the invention further contemplating the provision of belt guide loops on the waist band of the trousers for the support thereof when the waist-coat is not worn.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a pictorial front elevational view of a separably connected waist-coat and trousers;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevational view, similar to Figure 1, showing the coat in its opened position, with the multiple fastener elements carried thereby, separated from the multiple fastener elements on the waist line of the trousers.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the waist portion of the trousers with one of the circumferentially extending flaps on the waist line of the trousers carrying a section of the multiple separable fastener, shifted to illustrate the fastener carried by the inner side thereof; and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary rear elevational view of the waist portion of the trousers showing the adjacent ends of the multiple separable fastener sections carried by the trousers terminating in spaced relation at opposite sides of the rear seat seam of the trousers, permitting waist line alterations of the trousers without disturbing the fastener elements.
The invention relating to a multiple separable fastener connection between a waist-coat and trousers, the reference character Ill designates a waist-coat, somewhat in the form of a vest, having sleeves H, a collar and lapel section 12, 5 pockets I3, while the meeting front edges of the waist-coat H) are detachably connected together by the usual button and button hole arrangement H.
The trousers 16 has a waist line l6 with the 10 usual front fly opening I1 as shown in Figure 3 and a rear seat seam l8 extending upwardly through the waist portion l6, said waist portion being provided with the usual belt guide loops IS.
The waist line portion of the waist-coat ill at 16 the inner side thereof is provided with two spaced circumferentially extending fastener elements 20 of a multiple separable fastener that are secured to the waist coat by a tape 2|, each strip of multiple fastener elements 20 having a sliding fas- 20 tener 22, the adjacent ends of the strip of multiple fasteners 20 terminating in spaced relation at the back of the waist portion of the waist-coat ll as indicated at 23 in Figure 2.
The waist portion I 6 of the trousers II has a band 24 encircling the same below the belt guide loops l9 with the band 24 secured as by stitching at its lower edge as at 25 to the waist portion of the trousers. A strip of multiple fastener elements 26 is secured to the inner 30 face of the band 2| at each side of the front fiy opening l1 and the rear seam seat I8, the multiple fastener elements 26 being carried by a tape 21 secured to the band 25 and to be hidden by said band as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The front ends of the multiple separable fastener element 26 at each side of the trousers terminate in close proximity to the front fly opening l1 while the rear ends of said fastener element 26 at the rear of the waist portion of the trousers in widely spaced relation as shown at 28 at each side respectively of the rear seat seam l8. The multiple separable element sections 20 and 26 carried by the waist-coat l0 and trousers correspond in length and when the 00- operating sections are connected, the'waist portion of the waist-coat l0 overlies the waist portion of the trousers as shown in Figure 1 for completely concealing the band 24 of the trousers as well as all of the separable fasteners.
In ready-made garments, it is frequently required that alterations be made in the waist line of trousers and as such alterations are usually accomplished by changing the seat seam l8, such alterations may be made without in any manner 55 disturbing the multiple separable fastener elements. If desired, the trousers may be worn without the waist-coat ill by usinga belt at the waist line It thatJs strung through the belt guide loops Ii.
The principles described and illustrated above may be used in a garment for women. This garment would consist of a Jacket and skirt Joined together by fastener at the waistline. By using a slightly flared skirt with center seam at back and front alteration can be provided for exactly as described above.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and use thereof will at once be apparent and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention-as claimed.
I claim:-
1. In a garment of the character described, a waist-coat and trousers, and a multiple separable fastener connection between the waistlines of the coat and trousers with the waistline of the coat overlying the waistline of the trousers and the separable fasteners, belt guide loops on the waistline of the trousers and a band carried by the waistline of the trousers at the outer side thereof below the belt guide loops with the separable fasteners secured to the inner face of the band whereby said waist-coat may be attached to and separated from the trousers without opening the trousers at the waistline.
2. In a garment of the character described, a waist-coat and trousers, and a multiple separable fastener connection between the waistline of the coat and trousers with the waistline of the coat overlying the waistline of the trousers and the separable fasteners, the multiple separable fasteners being cooperatively carried by the coat and trousers and arranged in pairs with the adjacent rear ends terminating in spaced relation whereby alterations may be made in the waistline of the trousers without disturbing the multiple separable fasteners, belt guide loops on the waistline of the trousers and a band carried by the waistline of the trousers at the outer side thereof below the belt guide loops with one pair of the separable fasteners secured to the inner face of the band whereby said waist-coat may be attached to and separated from the trousers without opening the trousers at the waistline.
3. A garment construction comprising an upper garment portion and a lower garment portion, each of said garment portions having a waistline and a multiple separable fastener connection between the waistlines of the upper and lower portions of the garment, said multiple fastener connections having sections thereof respectively carried by the upper and lower portions of the garment with the ends of the separable fastener sections at the rear sides of the waistlines of the upper and lower portions terminating in spaced relation whereby alterations may be made in the waistline of either the upper or lower garment portion without disturbing the multiple separable fastener, the multiple fastener section carried by the upper garment portion being located on the inner face of the upper garment portion upwardly of the lower end thereof, and a band secured at its lower edge to the outer face of the waistline of the lower garment portion with the separable fastener section on the lower garment portion carried by the inner face of the band and concealed at all times.
