IMPROVEMENT l N PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,149, dated March 11, 1879 application filed August 17 1877.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARGYLE W. TUCKER, of \Vaxahachie, in the county of Ellis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following; is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to plows, and has for its object to improve the working of the same when used in black land, or in such earth as will not readily slip from the mold-board, but

sticks thereto, rendering the action of the device incapable of doing good work; and it consists in providing the plow with a means by which the mold-board is heated, which overcomes the difficulty.

In the annexed drawings, Figure lis a plan view, Fig. 2 is a section on line 00 0c of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2, of a device embodying my invention.

A represents the plow-beam B, the standard; O, the mold board; D, the land-side, and E the plowshare.

In the drawings the mold-board is represented as hinged to the plowshare. To the back of the plowshare is attached a fire-box, F, having a grate, a, near the bottom, a hinged door, I), at the rear, and a draft-flue, c, extending back near the rear end of the mold-board, as shown in Fig. 3. The front end of the standard is slotted, as shown at d, for convenience in regulating the draft of the plow. The mold-board O is hinged to the share E, for convenience in putting the fire or fuel into the fire-box, and for convenience in regulating the mold-board.

In use, the fire is placed in or ignited in the fire-box F, which heats the mold-board, which makes the earth slip more readily from the mold-board when plowing, and thereby renders the plow lighter of draft, and better work is accomplished.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a plow, the combination of a moldboard and fire-box, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination of the share E, hinged mold-board O, and fire-box F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The fire-box F, provided with a draftflue, 0, in combination with a mold-board, G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. The fire-box F, provided with a fine, 0, grate a, and hinged door I), in combination with the mold-board O and share E, as and for the purpose set forth.
