1 Claim.
,10 DUS Ways.
Another object of my invention is to provide a simple device which can be connected directly to the inside of the waistband of a pair of trousers.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawing which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof, it being understood that the above statement of the objects of my invention is intended generally to explain the same without limiting it in any mannel'.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view showing one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a viewsimilar to Fig. 1 and showing a modification of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view generally similar to Fig. 3 but showing another modification of the invention.
3o Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
, Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of one of the parts which are included in the embodiment of Fig. 4.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view showing another of the parts which are included in the embodiment of Fig. 4.
Fig. 9 is a view similar to Fig. 8 but showing a modification thereof.
Referring to the drawing, only the construction of the end-member of the Suspenders and of its appurtenant elements is illustrated, as my invention is principally concerned with this portion of the Suspenders. The remaining conventional portions of the Suspenders are not shown.
The end-member is designated by the reference 50 numeral 6 and said end-member can be made of elastic or non-elastic material. i
Fig. 1 illustrates the shirt S and the waistband Wof the trousers T, in combination with a fastening member IIJ. Said member I0 preferably 55 has a rectangular cross-section and said fastening member Ill may be made of elastic or nonelastic material.
As shown in Fig. 4, said member I0 is provided with buttonholes whereby its ends can be connected `to buttons which are sewed to the inside ,l of the waistband of the trousers T. Said member IIJ can be connected to thewaistband in any suit able removable manner. l.
Referring to Fig. l, the material of the shirt S is bent to form a main bight or loop so that a portion of the material of the shirt enters a `hook I5, and a part of said bight ofthe shirt also passes around and below the member I0.
The hook I5 is formed with a shoulder I6. The hook-member I5 can engage the fastening member I0 so that the trousers are properly supported.
Fig. 2 is generally similar to Fig. 1, save that Fig. 2 shows a hook-member I1, which has a shoulder I8 in its inner wall. Said shoulder serves as a lip to hinder the removal of the member I0 from the member II, which otherwise might result from a downward movement of the member I'I relative to the member Ill. Said shoulder is formed in the inner wall of said hook-member and said shoulder is laterally and outwardly directed.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the thickness of the member I0 is substantially equal to the opening in the hook-member II, said opening being defined by the left-hand edge of the lip or shoulder I8 which is shown in Fig. 2 and the opposite wall of said hook-member I1.
The material of the shirt S acts to prevent the member I0 from being released from the member I'I, when the member I'I is moved downwardly relative to the member I0. As shown in Fig. 2, the shoulderv I8 forms a supplemental bight in the inner wall of the main bight of the shirt, and this supplemental bight substantially abuts the upper edge of member Il). Fig. 1 shows the outer wall of member I0 bent soas to provide an equivalent shoulder or constriction. However, the member I0 can be pushed upwardly so as to be squeezed past the lip I8, so that the shirt and the Suspenders can be removed from the member II), without making it necessary to move the member I0 longitudinally, relative to the hook-member.
Fig. 3 shows how a loop is formed in a part of the shirt fabric, so as to enter the hook-member I'I.
Fig. 7 shows a U-shaped member 2l, which is provided with inwardly bent wings 2Ia.
Tongues-22 are stamped out of the rear wall of the member 2I, as shown in Fig. 7, leaving a 55 formed into a hollow T shaped loop which passes between the wings 2Ia of the member 2|. In
order to remove the shirt from the device, the l member 6 is slid downwardly relative to the member 2|, until the relatively narrow portion of said member 6, which is'showna't the top of Fig. 8, is located within the Ymember .2\|.. In the position of the parts which is shown in Figs. 4-6, the enlarged portion I9 is located within the member 2|, thus holding the shirt in position. The member 2| `may be connected tothewaistband W in any suitable manner,` .so vasftoeliminate the members l0.
Fig.. 9 is essentially the same as Fig. .8, save that Fig. 9 shows a member 6 of tapered shape .so vthat it has an enlarged bottom .end 23. The `member 2| is the same as the member 2`| .shown in Fig. '7, and the downwardmovement of member .2|, relative to member 6, is limited :by 'the tapered shape of member f6.
The member I can .be made Aof any suitable fabric or other flexible material.
Referring to the embodiment which is illustrated in Figs. 6-8, the member I9 fits with suilicient snugness within the member 2|, so as to hold the loop of the shirt frictionally in position.
I have shown preferred embodiments of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions can be made without departing from its spirit.
I claim:
.In combination With the waistband of a pair of trousers, a holding member connected at spaced points to the inner surface oi' said waistband, Suspenders having a hook-member at an end thereof, said hook-member being shaped and adapted to be passed between the inner surface of the waistband and said holding member so that said holding member is engaged by said hook-member, and a shirt located exterior to said Suspenders, said shirt having a portion thereof located in said hook-member and between said hook-member and said holding member, said holding member having a vertically elongated cross-section with a longitudinally extending 'upper edge, the opening of said hook-member being 4constricted, said constriction being so located that said hook-member will clamp a portion of the material of the shirt against said longitudinally extending upper edge, to hinder separation between said hol-ding member and said hookmember.
