Filed June 12. 193l w /f f M v L J INVENTOR Patented Oct. 11, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERNEST C. KASTNER, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO EASTERN TOOL & MFG. ('10., OF BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY CLIP Application filed June 12,
This invention relates to an improved clip for attachment to slides used on apparel or the like purposes. The clip is adapted to be compressed or squeezed over the folded end of a strap on which the slide is placed. The clip is made of sheet metal and is bent over to form a loop that embraces an arm of the slide and its depending part is designed to grasp the end of the strap and secure it firmly to the slide. The clip is smooth on its exterior and is economical as it requires but a small sheet of metal. There are no projecting parts to engage the clothing or fingers and the strap is held without perforating or otherwise disturbing its fabric other than folding it over.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front view of a slide equipped with my improved clip and provided with a strap. Figure 2 is a side view of the construction shown in Figure 1.
The slide itself may be of any conventional form comprising a frame usually formed of wire and having a top strand 10, a bottom strand 11 and a central strand 12 over and under which is threaded a strap 13, usually of denim. The strap is looped under the slide as at 14 and the end is connected to the slide usually to the bottom strand. The old way of connecting it is by turning it over and stitching it. This uses up considerable material and I have provided a clip to save material and to save time in attachment and to provide a neater and better appearing attachment.
The clip consists of a sheet of metal formed into an open loop 15 which is wide enough at the mouth to be snapped over the arm 11 but narrow enough to be held on for easy handling while securing the strap to the clip.
The clip, below the loop, is formed into opposed walls, normally separated to allow the introduction of the end of the strap.
The one wall 17 has a return bend 18 on the inner side and opposite the wall 16. The return bend or inner wall 18 terminates short of the loop 15 a suflicient distance to allow the fold 19 of the strap to be inserted. After the folded end of the strap is placed the sep- 1931. Serial No. 543,881.
arated or divergent walls 16 and 17 are pressed toward each other and the strap is tightly and securely attached to the clip as will be seen from Figure 2. The clip is economical in manufacture and provides an extremely simple but positive way of attaching the end of the strap to the slide.
I claim 1. A clip for garment slides comprising a sheet metal plate bent to form a loop and forming opposed walls, one wall having a return bend to form an inner wall, all the walls being flat when compressed and receiving the turned over end of a strap.
2. A sheet metal clip for garment slides, said clip having a loop at one end and opposed walls forming an entrance opening for a strap at the opposite end, one of said walls having a return bend to form an inner wall equally spaced from the outer walls and terminating short of the loop.
In testimony whereof he afiixes his signature.
ERNEST C. KASTNER.
