  • My invention consists of a tea-kettle having the breast, sides, and a strengthening portion for the spout all formed of one piece of sheet metal and double-seamed to the pit, so that the seam shall be under the sides of the kettle and form a strengthening-rib, upon which it rests when on the stove, as will more clearly appear by reference to the drawings, in which- A is the breast B B, the sides D, the strengthening portion for the spout, and E the pit, which is double-seamed to the body at F, thereby forming a strong rib of four thicknesses of metal, as shown at G, Fig. 2, upon which the kettle rests while on the stove, which arrangement adds strength to the kettle where it is most liable to be damaged by use.

Description

L. J. CARPENTER. Sheet Metal. Tea-Kettle.
No. 212,090. Patented Feb. 11,1879.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS J. CARPENTER, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHEET-METAL TEA-KETTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,090, dated February 11, 1879; application filed January 2, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwrs J. CARPENTER, of Bufialo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Metal Tea-Kettles, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tea-kettle complete; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragment, showing a section through the seamconnecting the pit and body together.
My invention consists of a tea-kettle having the breast, sides, and a strengthening portion for the spout all formed of one piece of sheet metal and double-seamed to the pit, so that the seam shall be under the sides of the kettle and form a strengthening-rib, upon which it rests when on the stove, as will more clearly appear by reference to the drawings, in which- A is the breast B B, the sides D, the strengthening portion for the spout, and E the pit, which is double-seamed to the body at F, thereby forming a strong rib of four thicknesses of metal, as shown at G, Fig. 2, upon which the kettle rests while on the stove, which arrangement adds strength to the kettle where it is most liable to be damaged by use.
I claim as my invention- A sheet'metal tea-kettle having the breast, sides, and a strengthening portion for the spout all formed in one piece of metal and double-seamed to the pit, in the manner specified, and for the purposes set forth.
LEWIS J. CARPENTER.
