Description

J. J. SANDERS SEWING'KIT June 22, 1937.
Filed April 29, 1956 Zlvwcntoc 11'. J 55/242 51? Patented June 22,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to sewing kits; and more particularly to one of a pocket type in which the various elements are compactly enclosed in a cylindrical case, in a unique and efiicient manner.
It is desirable to have such a kit occupy the minimum space, with each part performing some useful function and the material readily available.
The construction set out in my invention fills all of these requirements.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the kit; Figure 2 is a vertical section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the core taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2-;
Figure 4 is a horizontal section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3; and
rounding the mouth l5 of the bore I2.
A cover l6, thimble shaped, and having a substantially flat top surface I'I, fits over the mouth I5 and onto the flange I4. Within the bore I2 is placed 5 safety pins I8, needles I9, and similar articles, the needles, pins, or the like, being imbedded in the bottom of the cover It.
Thread 2 I is wound in the spool grooves l0 and H.
Upon the core 9 being placed in the casing I, the closure 8 in the form of a thimble, rests upon the cover I6 and closely conforms thereto.
The cover I5 has tapered sides 22 that exactly coincide with the shape of the closure thimble 8, the cover I6 thus serving as a reinforcing block for the thimble to prevent denting while 45 the kit is being carried.
As actually used, the thimble closure 8 will be removed, the cover I6 removed from the mouth I5 inverted as shown in Figure 5 and placed on a surface. This brings the needles in immediate position for use since they have previously been inserted in the bottom of the cup. The bottom likewise serves as a convenient me- 5 dium to receive the needles when not in use. The core 9 is then removed from the casing I and the thread and contents of the kit are readily available.
It is thought-that the invention and numer- 10 ous of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit or scope 15 of my invention or sacrificing any of its attendant advantages, the form herein described being a preferred embodiment for the purpose of illustrating my invention.
What I claim is:
1. Sewing kit including a casing, a unitary core within said casing having an internal bore, said core being exteriorly rabbetted at one end defining a flange surrounding the mouth of said bore, a thimble forming a cover for said casing, 2: and a lid for said core externally thimble-shaped and underlying the thimble for supporting the same, said lid having a bore telescoping on said flange and a counter-bore with penetrable bottom in which needles housed in the core are adapted to be impaled.
2. A sewing kit comprising a casing, a core within said casing having an internal bore, said core having a cover, a thimble forming a closure for said casing, said cover being externally shaped to closely contact the sides and top of said thimble closure for supporting the same.
3. A sewing kit comprising a casing, a core within said casing having an internal bore, said core having a cover, a thimble forming a closure for said casing, said cover having its interior formed with a counter-bore having a penetrable bottom in which needles housed in the core are adapted to be impaled, the top of said cover being flattened so as to support said cover in upright position and display the needles im-' paled therein.
