Application filed January 53, M328. Slerlal midi-T0.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lnvmo B. EPPENSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elgin, in the county of Kane and State of llli nois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compact Containers, of which the following is a specificzntion.
This invention relates to a receptacle or container designed especially for holding certain toilet accessories, as, for example, rouge and powder compacts; more particularly it is concerned with the construction of such a container which renders it suitable for convenient carrying and use, and for easy renewals as required.
-JAcoording to the present invention a contain'er is provided in the form of a case having two covers and an intermediate partition all hinged to swing about a common axis; in one cover may be contained a powder COZ11- pact together with pull therefor; in the partition may heprovided amirror by which the usefulness of the device is enhanced; and in the other cover provision. is made for releasably holding a rouge compact together with pufi therefor. My invention is concerned not only with. a case so constructed and arranged, but also with certain means by which one or both of the compactsare releasably secured in place so as to permit of a ready substitution of refills, whenever desired.
An exemplification of this invention is set forth in the accompanying drawing in the manner following:
, Figure 1 is a plan view of the container, the covers being opened out so as to expose the contents to view;
Fig, 2 is a transverse section on line .2--2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the means for releasably holding the rouge compact.
The present container ma 'cs use of two covers A and B between whicn is a partition ring C, all having a common hinged connection at 5. The covers A and B are formed with inwardly facing marginal walls or flanges 6 and 7, respectively, so as to provide between them an enclosure 'of ample size for the reception of the intended contents. Within the ring C is supported a partition element 8 preferably in the form of a mirror which, if desired, may also be double-laced so as always to present a reflecting surface ,regardless of its position between the two covers. As shown, the ring is formed to lie within the container in such amanner as not to interfere in any way with closing of the covers. Any suitable lock 9 may be provided for normally holding the covers together.
Within 't e cover A may be arranged a powder compact D with which is associated a removable oil 11 of lanihs wool or any other desirah e material. With the mirror ring closed down upon this compact, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the compact is thoroughly protected even though the parts in the other cover B be exposed. The powder compact may be secured in place in any desired mannor. lln the cover B is provided a circular plate 12 adapted to he secured frictionally or otherwise within the flanged walls 7 thereof, this plate having a central cup with depending circular walls 13 and a bottom. it, all as best shown in Fig. 2. The cup thus formed is to receive a rouge compact E the size of which is smaller than the powder compact, but ample nevertheless in proportliereto. To hold in such a rouge compact, l have shown a lip struck wardly from the cup walls and adapted to overlie the compact at one point, andsnbstantially opposite thereto a second overlying lip 16 which is carried by a spring arm 17 that may be fastened to the wall 13 as by means of a rivet 18. The spring means thus provided for completing the loci: for such a compact is arranged beneath the plate 12 and hence is concealed from view. To facilitate its operation a linger piece 19 is projected upwardly from the spring arm being extended through a slot 20 in the plate so to occupy a osition which is convenient for the finger. ver the rougc'conipact may be arranged a second puilQl of lanihs wool or any other suitable material.
A container of the hind described may be produced at no great expense and with the contents arranged as described will be found very convenient for use. As the powder and rouge compacts are secured in separate compartmcnts between which lies the swinging mirror, there is no possibility of the one main ing direct contact with the other, althou h both are exposed simultaneously if the mirror be swung to an intermediate position. In addition it should he noted-what each compact isindependentlv renewahle so that, if
one is consumed faster than the other, it is eo csary to obtain a combination com- Bill] projest gage a compact withm the cup whereby the" pact in order to p m inng tbs serviceabiiity 0f the device.
I claim:
