Inglewood, Calif. Application Anmt4, 1936, Serial No. 94,276
' 1 Claim. (Cl. 4-185) Our invention relates to an improvement in bath tubs; and the object of our improvement is to provide a safety hand grip rail to be built into the construction of the tub at the top and along the inside edge'of the front or outside of said tub, which safety hand grip rail may be grinned or held by persons using such tubs, thereby serving as a support to prevent falling.
A further object of the improvement provides that the lower or bottom part of pocket that is formed by the construction of tub with safety hand grip rail may be used as a receptacle for soap, etc. e
The object of our improvement is further illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a cross section of a bath tub showing a tub constructed with safety hand grip rail.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through tub showing the safety hand grip rail, with a division on said rail.
Figure 3 is a top view of tub showing safety hand grip rail, and space in pocket in front of rail.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a section of safety hand grip '81], and pocket with receptacle.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several figures.
A relates to the safety hand grip rail, to be constructed of sumcient size as will enable persons to grip and hold same with hand, the length of rail or sections of rail to be governed by size and length of tub on which said rail is a part.
Said safety hand grip rail may be made in round, square, hexagon, or any ornamental shape, and in any color d 3" indicates a division in safety hand grip rail A, the P e of which is to lend strength to rail, and to provide for more'substantial construction of rail, and said-division 13" may be of same width or thickness as side of tub at that Point.
Length of said division "B" may be such as is C.indicates the space or pocket in front of and belowsafety hand grip rail A, such space 5 or pocket being formed at time of construction of bath tub with safety hand grip rail A. The size of pocket may'vary.
"D shows the lower part or bottom of pocket, with gradual slope for drainage and ridged or grooved surface to hold soap, etc., and prevent same from sliding out of pocket.
Some styles of bath tubs are constructed to be installed near center of room, or away from wall. That style of tub may be constructed with a safety hand grip rail on one or more sides of tub.
We claim:
A bath tub having a pair of spaced and aligned recesses in the upper portion of one side wall thereof, each of said recesses having a floor and side and back walls, a hand rail extending across the top of each of said recesses, said hand rail being flush with the top of said wall and the inner face thereof, the floor of each recess being downwardly sloped from the rear throughout its :35 breadth, raised transverse ridges extending across each of said floors from the backs to the front edges thereof and terminating flush with the face of said side wall of the tub, the top edges of said ridges being horizontal and providing a raised support for a cake of soap, the back wall of each recess being forwardly sloped from the top and merging into said downwardly sloped floor, and at least a maior portion of each of the side walls. of each recess being inwardly sloped from the top and me g ng gradually into said sloped floors to cooperate therewith and with said rear walls to direct water entering said recesses in a direction towards the forward edges thereof and out of the same.
