Description

v OFFICE" 2 Claims. 1
My invention relates to a bathtub, more particularly a bathtub provided with convenient hand hold portions in connection therewith, and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a bathtub of this class having hand hold portions in connection with the sides thereof for the convenience of the bather when getting in and out of the bathtub;
Second, to provide a bathtub of this class having hand hold portions in connection therewith which insures safety of the bather against slipping and falling in the bathtub;
Third, to provide a bathtub of this class in which the hand hold portions are integral and in the most convenient location;
Fourth, to provide a bathtub of this class having hand hold portions which may be conveniently used for supporting wash cloths in connection therewith;
Fifth, to provide a bathtub of this class having hand hold portions which are integral and within the normal outlines of the bathtub;
Sixth, to provide a bathtub of this class having hand hold portions within the normal outline of the bathtub which do not obstruct the normal movements of the bather when getting in and out of the bathtub, thereby providing a neat arrangement of such hand holds which will not tend to trip or encumber the bather while taking a bath or getting in or out of the bathtub; and
Seventh, to provide a bathtub of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, eflicient in use and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims. reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon forming a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my bathtub showing the hand hold portion connected therewith; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken from the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken from the line 3--3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of the side wall of the bathtub showing a modified hand hold arrangement. 7
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings:
The bathtub l is a substantially conventional bathtub and is provided with recessed portions I a in its upper side wall portion, which recesses la communicate with the inner spaces of the side Walls lb and lo, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Extending over these recessed portions la are the hand hold portions lb which are arranged in abridged relation with the recess portions la and are preferably integral with the structure of the bathtub I.
As shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, these recessed portions la and hand hold portions lb are positioned at substantially the middle of the bathtub at opposite sides thereof and are conveniently located for use by the bather when sitting in the bathtub. The faucet end Id of the bathtub I is provided with hand hold bridge portions le extending across the opposite corners lj thereof, as shown in detail in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
In the modification, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the hand hold portion lg is positioned a certain distance below the upper edge lh of the bathtub l. Thus, the hand hold portions le may be at the upper edge of the bathtub l 01' the bathtub may be fabricated in such a manner so as to provide the hand hold portions lg extending across the corners of the bathtub l at a position a certain distance below the upper edge lh of the bathtub l, as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
The use of my bathtub is substantially as follows. When a person is bathing in the bathtub and wishes to move therein, he may grasp the hand hold portions lb or le, whichever are convenient for the particular position of the bather. When getting in and out of the bathtub, the hand hold portions lb and le serve to stabilize the bather if the bottom of the bathtub is slippery, preventing the bather from losing balance and falling in the bathtub and injuring himself.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to the particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bathtub of the class described, consisting of a conventional bathtub having upwardly extending walls and corners at the intersection of said walls and hand hold portions extending across said corners and in integral connection with said intersecting walls.
2. A bathtub of the class described, consisting I of a conventional bathtub having upwardly extending walls and corners at the intersection of said walls and hand hold portions extending across said corners and in integral connection with said intersecting walls, said hand hold portions near the upper edge of said walls.
