Description

uiten tetes stent frn IMPROVD DRESSING-CASE AND BATH-TUB.
dit dgetnli referiert in in tinte ttter prima mit making gnat ni tige stmt.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, CAItOLINE A. STAPLES, of Boston, inthe county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts have invented a. combined Dressing-Gase, Bath-Tub, etc., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference 'being had to the accompanyingdrawings, making part of this speeicatiomin which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my dressing-case, bath-tub, etc., combined. i
Figure 2 is a transverse'vertieal sectionr through the centre of the same.'
` Figure 3 is a transverse section on the line x a' of fig. 1.
Figure 4 is a perspective view, representing the bath-tub uncovered.
My invention consists in the employment of a dressing-case, in connection with a bathing-tub, water-closet, and wash-bowl, to bc usedin hotels and dwelling-houses of the iirst class, the combined arrangement being applied to the suites of rooms of' cach occupant to avoid the inconvenience oi' going outside to another part of the house to the pla-ce or places ordinarily occupied by the bath-tub, closet, and bowl, the dressing-case being provided with casters to allow of its being drawn forward to servons a screen when the bath-tub is in nse, and sliding over so as to enclose it, in which position it is of convenient access, and answers the purpose of an ordinary dressing-case.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in'vvhich I have carried it out. i
In the said drawings'A represents a bath-tub, into which hot or cold water may be conducted throughmthe pipes a b in a well-known manner. At opposite ends of the bath-tub arc placed a wash-bowl, B, and water- ,closet, C, a narrow space or opening, c, intervening, in which slide the upright sides d of a bureau or dressingcase, D, (sec iig. l.) The water-closet and wash-bowl are of compren construction, with the addition of a small boiler, E, placed under vthe latter, the water being supplied byt'hepipe e, and being heated by gas from`tl1e pipef, and discharged through the pipe r/ into the bath-tub, when in summer there is no fire in the range or heater below. The pipes a, (i, and g enter the bath-tub at the back corner so that they will not he in the way when stepping into the tub. The insideof the door F is provided with hooks uponwhich to hang towels. zis' a drawer at one side of the pan of the water-closet. At one end of the bath-tub are formed recesses, c Z, which serve as receptacles for soap and towels. The dressing-ease rolls on casters, and is provided with two large drawers, 'm 91, above, and two imitation drawers, o p, below, to admit of' its enclosing the bath-tub. G `is a lookingTglass pivotcd at g to standards rising from the top of the dressing-case, and may be swung over so as to front the bath-tub when in use, thc dressing-case being drawn out from it and serving as a screen. To each of the front posts of the ease is hinged a strip, r, (see viig. 1,) provided with a recess, s, for the reception of umbrellas, canes, etc. On opposite sides ofthe looking-glass are placed a series of toilet-drawers; t, and a deep drawer, u, provided with a shelf perforated with eircularholes te allow of bottles, etc., being kept in an upright position. When the lid of the water-closetiis closed it may` bc covered by a cushion, H, of corresponding form, (see iig. 1.) j
i The above-described arrangement is very convenient in hotels or elswherc, when part-ies wish to have every accommodation at'hand within .the room or rooms they occupy, and is especiallyl useful in apartments occupied by invalids. It is evident that the wash-bowl or water closet, or both, may be omitted, and the dressing-case and bath-tub only be used together, without departing from the spirit of my invention, but Iimuch prefer to combine them all.
A perforated cap may bey screwed to a short branch leading from cit-her the hot or cold-water pipes, when a showenbath is required. i
, Claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A dressing-case and bath-tub combined, constructed substantiallyy ns sot forth.
