Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
EDWVARD H. INGLIS, OF NEWTOWN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,872, dated September 10, 1878; application filed May '28, 1878. 4
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. INGLIS, of Newtown, county of Queens, State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a front elevation of myimproved shirt. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line a: 00 in Fig. 1
The object of the invention is to protect the inner bosom from the studs that are inserted in the outer osom.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, A is a shirt, having in the front portion thereof the opening I), for receiving the shirt bos om. Two shirt-bosoms, c, are attached to the front of the shirt, one at each side of the bosom-openin g. These bosoms are attached to the front of the shirt at the lower endsfrom the middle to the attached side, while from the middle of the bosom to the free edge thereof the lower edge is detached.
By meansjof this arrangement either of the bosoms may overlap the other, so that when one becomes soiled the other may be placed over it. i
To guard against one of the bosonis becoming soiled by the studs in the other the front plait of each is provided with alining or flap, d, which prevents the studs from coming into contact with the face of the inner bosom. The shirt having a double bosom of this description is open only in front. The free edge of the overlapping bosom is secured by buttons.
Besides the advantage of having a clean bosom when one becomes soiled, the shirt havin g my improvement affords protection to the chest at the most exposed part.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A shirt having bosoms 0 attached to a continuous overlapping neck-band and unattached at bottom, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
2. A shirt having two overlapping bosoins attached to a continuous neck-band, but un attachedatbottom, thebosoms being each pro vided with a front flap, d, as and for the purpose specified.
EDWARD H. INGLIS.
