Description

Patented Mar. 23, I937 EJNHTED STATES PATENT @FFEQQE TROUSERS DISPLAY DEVICE Maurice P. Kohl, Cleveland, Ohio Application October 29, 1935, Serial No. 47,294
4 Claims.
his invention relates to a display device for trousers and has for its principal object to provide such a device which shall be of cheap construction and at the same time capable of displaying trousers in a manner to indicate how they will appear on the wearer. A more limited object is to provide such a device which may be made from sheet metal and which shall be readily adjustable and provided with simple and inexpensive adjustment means. A further object is to provide such a device which shall possess a sufiiciently high degree of rigidity notwithstanding the thin gauge of the material of construction while allowing some motion of the bottoms of the supporting elements toward and from each other.
Other and more limited objects will become apparent from the following description especially when read in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a front elevation of a device embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section corresponding substantially to the line 3-3 of Fig. l and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section corresponding substantially to the line 4-- l of Fig. 1.
In the drawing, the numerals l0 and i l indicate angular sheet metal members forming supporting ieet. Secured to said members are angle uprights l2 and [3 which have bent-over edges I4 whereby to receive telescopically the upper sections i5 and i6 forming the spaced uprights or pedestals which are received within the legs of the trousers to be displayed. The lower sections I2 and i 3 and the upper sections l5 and 16 are held in adjusted position by means of set screws i l and [8 which are threaded through bosses IS on said upper sections and which pass through such bosses and such upper sections toengage against adjacent portions of the lower sections I2 and IS.
The upper ends of the upper sections i5 and Hi are permanently secured to U-shaped elements 29 and 2!. The U-shaped section 29 has its extremities provided with bent-over portions 22 whereby to receive the extremities of the U- sh-aped element 2! telescopically. Set screws 23 pass through bosses 24 secured to the element 2| and engage against the adjacent portions of the extremities of the element 20 whereby to hold the parts in adjusted position.
It will be noted that the uprights are connected to the U-shaped members at a point some little distance off center and this causes the trousers on display to appear substantially as 55 they will appear on the wearer and prevents the lower portions of the legs thereof from being pulled out of position by the lower sections 12 and I3 of the uprights. The U-shaped members 2B and 2i make up an annular element of a width about that of a belt so that trousers may be attached by means of a belt in the same manner as to the wearer. The outline of the annular element approximates the cross section of an average man at the waistline.
Since the material of construction is thin gauge sheet metal the supports l0 and i i. can be moved toward and from each other sufiiciently to permit the uprights to be moved to a position not to contact the trousers within which they extend.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided a construction which is well adapted for its intended purpose and which can be constructed of thin gauge sheet metal without sacrifice of essential rigidity or stability and while I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention I wish it understood that the same is illustrative only and that I am not limited except in accordance with the appended claims and the prior art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A display device for trousers comprising spaced pedestals and a substantially horizontally extending annular element secured thereto, said annular element consisting of two U-shaped sections having the bight portions therecf adjustable toward and away from each. other, each of said pedestals being secured to the bight portion of one of said U-shaped sections and extending substantially vertically downwardly therefrom.
2. A display device for trousers comprising spaced, sheet metal pedestals, the same being adjustable as to length, and a substantially horizontally extending annular element secured thereto, said annular element including curved portions of a diameter considerably less than the length of such annular element and means for adjusting such curved portions toward and from each other and for holding the same in adjusted position, each of said pedestals being secured to the bight portion of one of said U- shaped sections and extending substantially vertically downwardly therefrom.
3. In a trousers display device, a sheet metal annular element of cross section approximating that of the waistline of a man and of a width to have trousers secured thereto by means of a belt and uprights secured to such annular element in spaced relation to each other and adaptments, each of said pedestals being secured at its upper end to the bight portion of one of said U- shaped elements, said U-shaped elements having their leg portions telescopically and adjustably connected together whereby to form a substantially horizontal annular element of outline approximating the cross section of the human body .at the waistline and to which trousers may be attached by means of a belt as to a wearer, and each of said pedestals being adjustable as to length and extending substantially vertically downwardly from said annular element.
