HEADREST FOR BATHTUBS. APPLICATION FlLE D JULY 26. 1920.

SAUL S. LEFFLER AND RUDOLPH R. HAT TON, 0F CONEY ISLAND, NEW YORK.
HEADBEST FOR BATHTUBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 6, 1921.
Application filed July 26, 1920. Serial No. 398,939.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, SAUL S. LEFFLER and RUDOLPH'R. HArroN, citizens of the United States, residing at Coney Island, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Headrest for Bathtubs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a head rest for bath tubs the principal object of which is to provide a rest adapted for use with persons of different sizes and also to permit changing the angularity of its position so that the occupant of the tub may rest his or her head in any preferred position.
A further object is to provide a simplified structure which may be quickly and con veniently attached to a bath tub at the same time possessing the necessary qualities of rigidity.
The above and other objects will be in part described and in part understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred form of the invention.
Figure l is a side elevational View of the invention illustrating the manner of its application to a bath tub.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary rear elevational view of the device taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a detail fragmentary sectional view of one of the arms showing the manner in which the leg is secured.
In the drawings in order to illustrate the application of the invention a bath tub 5 is provided which is equipped with the usual overturned flange.
The invention consists of a supporting member generally designated 7 which in the present instance consists of a strand of wire bent into U shape having the terminals thereof engaged with the bottom of the bath tub and its vertex bent so as to snugly engage the flange 6.
The arms 8 are slidably mounted upon the legs of the supporting members 7 each arm being extended beneath its respective supporting leg to provide a bearing 9 in which a set screw 10 is mounted, the latter extending into the bore of the arm through which the leg passes for engagement therewith. In this way the arms may be secured in any desired position upon the supporting structure. The said arms extend upwardly for an appreciable distance above the legs of the supporting structure and have their upper terminals reduced, as indicated at 10, and movably connected with right angle straps 11 through the medium of bolts and thumb screws 12. A perforated pillow 13 made of wood, metal, rubber or any other material is secured to the straps 11 and has mounted thereon a perforated cushion 14. Upon it will be observed that the pillow 13 is gradually reduced toward its transverse center thereby better conforming to the contour of the head. Also in this way casual displacement of the head will be reduced to a minimum.
Although we have above described what now appears to us to be the preferred embodiment of our invention, nevertheless it is to be understood that changes may be made, especially in the proportion and arrangement of parts to the extent permitted by the appended claim.
at we claim is:
A head rest for bath tubs including a supporting structure equipped with upstanding slidable arms, a pillow, and angle straps adjustably connecting said arms and pillow to latter.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
SAUL S. LEFFLER. RUDOLPH R. HATTON.
