DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed. January 29, 1924. Serial No. 689,285.,
i 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENO LEVY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York,have
invented a new and Improved Display Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices, and more particularly to improved means for supporting figures or dummies in the display of clothing. Theinvention relates particularly to window display devices and the like in which clothing T is supported and draped in natural position as if upon the figure of a human body, and it is the purpose of my invention to provide means to greatly reduce-the cost of such display devices so that clothing can be displayed in natural position upon figures costing appreciably less than those heretofore required.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating my invention applied to a figure or dummy for displaying male attire;
Figure 2 is a view, partly in elevation but mainly in section, through the center of the lower portion of the dummy or torso of the display device and through the crotch of the trousers, showing the manner of connecting my improved upright to the dummy as well as to the base;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of my improved upright member removed.
For lack of a better term I shall refer to the figure or form upon which the clothing is draped as a dummy and shall employ the reference character 1 to indicate the dummy of the male figure.
Referring particularly to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the dummy 1 is preferably although not essentially provided with arms 3 and stumps i. As a matter of economy, it is desirable to make these stumps 4 as short as possible and in some cases they might be dispensed In connection with the dummy I provide portable artificial legs 5 r with shoes 6 and hose 7 thereon, so that in the display these portable feet and leg portions 5 will be made either to accommodate mens or womens shoes, as the case may be, in accordance with the articles to be displayed.
In constructing my improved device I provide a base 8, which may be circular or otherwise shaped and which is preferably relatively flat and may have tapered edges 9, as shown, so as to allow a carpet or rug to be disposed over the same and present a comparatively smooth surface. On the base 8 and at the rear thereof I secure a tubular post 10, and in this post 10 the cylindrical lower end portion 11 of my improved upright 12 is adjustably secured by means of a set screw 13 so as to regulate the height of the standard. The upper end of the standard is bent upon itself, as shown at 14', extending downwardly a desired distance and then curved forwardly, as shown at 15, and provided with an upwardly projecting lug 16 positioned in a fixed sleeve 18 in the crotch of the dummy 1 and secured therein by a set screw 19 to rigidly support the dummy in an upright position.
It is, of course, to be understood that in draping the figure, the coat and vest ofa garment or an overcoat can be readily posireceive the stumps. 4 of the dummy and the v lower ends of the trousers are positioned over the artificial legs, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I Claim:
A display device comprising a body portion with its upper part having the general outlines of a persons body and its lower part the upper portion of two legs, a base, an upright post fastened to one side of the,
' base and extending upwardly to slightly may readily be placed on the same for disabove the waistline of the body portion of play by passing the waist band up between the device thence downwardly to the crotch the upwardly and downwardly extending 10 and fastened at its end to said body to sup portions of the upright post and the legs of '5 port the same, loose shoe display freely, movthe trousers over the severed legs of the body able to different positions of the base whereand the shoe display devices on the base. by trousers to be displayed on said body BENO LEVY.
