Description

Nov. 28, 1961 HQW. HALE LIFE SIZE FIGURE FOR DISPLAYING GARMENTS Filed March 21, 1958 INVENTOR.

United States Patent 3,010,225 LIFE SIZE FIGURE FOR DISPLAYING GARMENT S Helen W. Hale, 2013 Cherry St., Philadelphia, Pa. Filed Mar. 21, 1958, Ser. No. 723,065 2 Claims. (Cl. 35-56) This invention is a manikin or display figure, simulating a human figure, on which various articles of clothing may be applied and removed. The figure is primarily for use by children and the figure is about the size of a child so that a child can apply its own clothing to and remove such clothing; from the figure, which in addition to providing amusement for the child, aids in teaching the child to dress and undress itself. However, the figure can be made in adult as well as childrens sizes, for display purposes and for a clothes rack.

The figure is made of sheet material, and includes a head provided with real or artificial hair and with a conventional face, or a blank space rfor a face, onto which a photograph of the child using the figure can be applied. Arms and legs are of course provided and the figure is supported on a standard so that there is a clearance below the feet so that garments normally worn below the waist may be applied and removed.

An important feature of the invention are wedging slots in the neck and shoulder portions for detachably holding garments normally worn below the neck and shoulder, and wedging slots at the waist for detachably holding arments normally worn below the waist.

The invention will be more fully described in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a front-elevation of the doll figure of the present invention;

FIG. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a detached view of an arm of the figure;

FIG. 4 shows a face that may be applied to the face portion of FIG. 1;

FIG. 5 is a horizontal section of a detail.

The doll comprises sheet material cut in the outline of a doll figure, comprising a body 2, head 4, real or artificial hair 5, arms 6, hands 7 and legs 8. The doll figure is detachably supported on a vertical standard 10, socketed in a base 12 having a forward extension 13, with a clearance 14 just below the feet of the figure. The detachable connection comprises a small open topped receptacle 15 at the upper end of the standard 10, which may be filled with soft rubber, in which rests a projection 16 attached to body 2, so the projection can be lifted out of 15 as desired.

Important features of the invention are the plurality of wedging slots 17 in the shoulder and neck portion of the doll and wedging slots 18 at the waist. In dressing the doll, garments normally worn below the neck, such as at waist, blouse or sweater, are wedged into upper slots 17 at the shoulder, while garments normally worn below the waist, such as a dress, petticoat, panties and the like, are put under the feet, through clearance space 14 and then wedged and so held in the wedging slots 18 at the waist.

A conventional face as shown in FIG. 4 may be applied to the head, or a photograph of the face of the child using the article, may be so applied. Other useful accessories are a support 20 for schoolbooks and a socket 22 in the base for the tip of an umbrella.

I claim:

1. A life size doll comprising essentially a childs figure cut out of sheet material and of the same size as the child using the doll, the cut out figure being provided with head, arms, body, and limbs closely simulating in size and shape the corresponding portions of the body of the child using the doll, so that the actual garments belonging to the child using the doll will fit properly on the dolls figure, the dolls figure being provided with horizontal, inwardly directed wedging slots at the neck and waist portions thereof for detachably gripping the upper portions of garments normally worn below the neck and waist, respectively, to thereby support said garments dependently from said slots.

2. The combination of claim 1, further including a supporting standard for detachably supporting the cut out figure, with the feet of the figure above the floor, whereby shoes and hosiery can readily be applied to and removed from the foot and leg portions of the doll, and other body encircling garments normally worn below the waist may be applied and removed from below said foot portions.
