"NTED STATES JOHN J. BEHR, 0F NEW ORLEANS. LUUISIANA.
GABMN T PROTECTGR.
Application ilcd July 10, 1922. Serial No. 573,878.
To all 1li/rainW i5-ning) covneern:
Be it known that I, JoHN il. Bai-IHR, a citizen of the United States, residing at X ew Orleans. in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment. Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
M7.' nesent invention pertains to apparel, and it contemplates the provision of a device through the medium of which the shirt and coat of the person wearing ethe device will be prevented from becoming soiled or musst` l.
The invention furthe-r contemplates the provision of a device that. is simple and convenient to adjust and wear and when properlv positioned ou a person a free. circulation et aii will take place at. all times between the shirt or coat and back of the wearer of the garment.
The invention is further adapt-able for use of persons compelled to remain in a seat for a. length oi time, for instance those travellingr in a motor vehicle. train or the like. and when employed liability of perspiration trom soiling the garment exposed to the back of the vehicle will be precluded.
Other objects and characteristic features of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claim, when the same are read in connection with the specification and drawings, accompanying. in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan "iew of my novel garment.
In both views of the drawings similar numerals are employed to designate corresponding parts.
My novel device is preferably formed of cork and other suitable light. nonmoisture absorbing.: material. and is also preferably constructed in the shape illustrated. The said device comprises the discs 1, that may be round as shown or any other shape compatible with its purpose, the said discs 1 are secured by thread or cords 2. that. pass entirelv through each of the discs 1, and therebv secure said discs to each other. It will be noted that the discs are secured to each other with a slight intervening space therebetween and this provision is mde in order to take care of contraction and expansion of the discs due to moisture.
The device formed' in the manner illusis a transverse sectional view trated of the discs 1 are provided with the tapes -i having at their upper ends the loops 3, and hence it will be seen that the device ma;v he placed over the shoulders and will be properly retained against the back. The loops serveto receive the arms of the wearer and the device as a whole may either be worn under the shirt or coat with equal facility and comfort. and because of the iight construction of the protector the finished appearance of a shirt or coat will not be detracted from.
It will be manifest that besides acting in its primary capacity, the device is also adapted to act as a support and soft rest for the back.
It will be manifest that. because of the non-absorbing -n'iaterial of the device perspiration cannot settle on the back of the wearer and the construction furthermore relieves stains Jfrom matter in the material of which the device is made. rlhe discs may he made of an v suitable material compatible with their purpose and when desired may be treated with a coat of enamel. The protector, moreover may be made of an)7 shape to conform to the different. formations of individuals.
Uanifcstlv a catch may be employed to secure the protector to the trousers of the wearer if desired and the device is also adapted for use b v a woman and if she does not care to don the garment. the sarue may be attached to the hack of the chair in which she is seated.
Havingr described nl v invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
In a device for the purpose set forth, the combination of a series of cork discs secured adjacent. each other. in substantially a horizontal plane to produce a garment slightlyy wider at its upper end than atl its lower end, tapes secured to discs running from the upper corners substantiall)` diagonally of said garment, and having loops at their upper end wherein` the device ma;v be adjusted to the hack of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN J. BAEHR. Witnesses:
R. G. Eus'rxs, M. E. Klnen'r.
