ADJUSTABLE TROUSER DISPLAY FORM Filed Sept. 21, 1945 FIG. 2
INVENTOR JUL/us M4 YE/Q ATTORNEYS Patented Mar. 25, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,418,083 ADJUSTABLE TROUSER DISPLAY FORM J ulius Mayer, Forest Hills, Y. Application September 21, 194-5, Serial No. 617,837
(01. zzs -ss) 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in garment display forms and more particularly toa form for displaying trousers or slacks in simulation to their position whenwor'nupon a wearer.
One of the main features ofthe invention resides in a trousers display form for use in displaying trousers in show windows and stores in a manner to impart a naturalha'ng to the trousers so displayed.
Another feature of the invention is to provide an adjustable display form for displaying various size trousers in a natural position of use.
A further feature of the invention is the provision of an adjustable trousers display form constructed of a plurality of relatively light separable parts to enable the same to be compactly packed and shipped, and stored when in a knock-down position.
Other features of the invention are to provide a knock-down adjustable trousers display form which is simple and inexpensive of construction; easy to assemble and disassemble, and which is concealed from view when in use with 'a pair of trousers supported in display position thereby.
Other novel features of the invention will become apparent as the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an adjustable trousers display form constructed in accordance with the invention, a pair of trousers and shoes being illustrated in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional view on the line i4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, the numeral H3 designates my adjustable trouser display form in its entirety which includes a stand embodying a pair of spaced apart parallel vertically adjustable legs ll-| l.
Each leg ll comprises a lower tubular leg section i2 and an upper leg section l3, the latter being slidably fitted into the upper end of the section 52 so that the sections l2 and I3 are telescopically connected. A clamping screw 14 is threaded through the upper portion of section 12 for clamping engagement with the section l3 to secure the leg sections in adjusted position to vary the height of the form in order to accommodate trousers of different lengths.
Connected to the lower end of each leg section I2 is a foot l made of tubular material and which extends forwardly and rearwardly a distance to provide a supporting base for the leg and to fit into a shoe S when the form is in use. The lower leg section l2 and foot I5 of each leg provide a, leg unit which is substantially inverted T-shape which is sufficiently rigid to support the loadto which'it is subjected when in use The legs li-ll are braced by a cross rod Hi, the ends of which are threaded into nipples ll-ll extending inwardly from the leg sections I2--l2 a suitably spaced distance above the "feet l5--|5 so as to clear the tops of the shoes S -S.
The length of the adjustable legs is of course made long enough so that the nipples I! are below the lower ends of the trousers supported-by the form. a
While the base portion of the legs l lll are braced and rigid, the upper portions thereof are resilient to enable the same to be spread apart or moved a limited distance toward each other to facilitate adjustment of the waist form member i8 carried by the upper ends of the leg sections l3'l3.
The adjustable waist form member 3 includes a pair or arcuate shaped form sections 19 and 20 fixedly secured at their mid-portions to the upper ends of the leg sections l3- -l3, The form sections l9 and 2B are arranged with their concave sides in spaced confronting relation as best illustrated in Figure 2. Extending inwardly from the the mid-portions of the form sections [9 and 20 are overlapping horizontal arms 2| and 22 respectively. The arms 2| and 22 areshown as angle bar shape in cross section with the arm 22 overlapping the arm 2|. A bridge piece 23: spans the space between the free longitudinal edges of the arm 22 at the free inner end thereof. A clamping screw 2 1 is threaded through the bridge piece 23 and when screwed home, the shank thereof clampingly bears against the arm 2| to secure the form sections l9 and 20 in an adjusted position to fit different Waist sizes of the trousers to be supported in display position upon the form III. The angle shaped arms 2| and 22 interfit and guide the form sections l9 and 20 during their movements to expanded and contracted positions. In use, the form sections l9 and 20 act as jaws and are expanded into engagement with the waist portion of a pair of buttoned up trousers T illustrated in dotted lines in Figure 1.
The legs of the trousers T hang down from the waist engaging form l8 with the legs Il--l| enclosed therein. In order to impart a natural fullness to the lower portions of the trousers legs, I mount leg form members 25-25 upon the lower leg sections |2l2. Each leg form member 25 "loosening of the screw 24. -25-25 may be removed from the leg sections through a pair of alined holes 2! and the threaded 1 pin 28 passes through a pair of alined holes 25.
After the overlapping ends of the form member 25 are adjustably attached to the pinsv 28 and 29, a wing nut 30 is threaded to the pin 20 to secure the form member in position upon the leg section [2. By providing two pins 28 and 29s, the form member is prevented from turning and is thus held in a rigid fore and aft position. The form members 25-45 engage the inside of the trouser legs below the knee portion to impart to the trouser legs a natural hang.
To support a pair of trousers upon the form 10,
the leg sections |3|3 are withdrawn from the leg sections I2i2.- The trouser legs are lowered 'down over the leg section I2i2 after which the'legs 13-43 are inserted through the top of the trousers and inserted into the leg sections l2-l2. 'The leg sections [3-13 are secured to 'theleg sections I2l2 by the clamping screws l 4 l4 after the same have been adjustedas to heightto meet the length of the trousers. Next, the screw 24 is loosened and the form sections iii and 20 are expanded into tight engagement with [the Waist portion of the-trousers, whereby the same are now supported in a naturalhanging ldisplay position. The leg form members 25 may now be adjusted to impart a natural fullness to the lower portions of the trouser legs. V For packing and shipping and for storage purposes, the form In may be knocked down. The leg sections 13-13 and forms I9 and 20 may be separated from the lower base section as a unit. "The form sections l9 and 20 may be separated by The form members l2--'|2 by removal of the wing nuts 30, and the 'lower leg and foot'sections may be separated by unscrewing the cross rod I6 from the nipples l-I-l'l. When the several parts are separated in the manner above explained, the same maybe file of this patent:
compactly arranged in a box for shipping and storing purposes.
While I have shown and described what I consider to be the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that such changes in construction, material and design as come within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to if desired without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth therein Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A trousers form display device comprising a pair of lower leg sections, a foot at the lower end of each lower leg section, a brace rod having its ends secured to the lower leg sections adjacent said feet, a pair of upper leg sections in telescoping relation with the upper ends of the respective lower leg sections, clamping means for securing the leg sections in an adjusted position, trouser waist form members having convex outer faces respectively carried by the upper ends of the upper leg sections, and each rigidly connected with one of said sections, and means for securing the form members in adjusted spaced apart relation, said means comprising alined arms, one of which is connected to each of said members and means carried by said arms for securing them in the desired adjusted positions.
' 2. A trousers form display device as set forth in claim 1 including a pair of elongated leg form members respectively mounted upon the lower leg sections for imparting a natural fullness to the legs of a trousers, said member having over- 'lapping ends and means for adjusting the length of the leg form members.
