This invention relates to display structures and more particularly to display devices for use in store show windows, in showcases, on cupboards and other locations for exhibition etc.

It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a very simple, sturdy but sufficiently flexible display device of the aforesaid type which is of practical construction and reliable and efficient in use and operation.

It is another object of this invention to provide means facilitating the display of a set of articles of varying sizes in neat and orderly fashion.

A still further object of the invention is to provide means ensuring the extensibility of the display device so that it may be readily adjusted to carry for display articles of different shapes, dimensions and volume.

It is another object of this invention to provide means affording a relatively small base on which the articles may be mounted for display and on which they are held in a predetermined position whereby the location of the point of gravity of the display device is determined in a most favorable manner.

Still another object of the invention is to provide means rendering the possibility of easily folding or transforming the display device into disassembled condition for storing and shipping purposes.

These and other objects of the invention will be pointed out in the following description and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose, by way of example, the principle Of the invention and preferred modes which have been contemplated for applying said princi ple.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings there is shown in Fig. 1 a display device It embodying the invention, the device being substantially made of wire material and consisting of a base H with back rest l2 and further of'an upper extension l3 carrying a swingable platform As can be seen from Fig. 3 the display device I it may be employed, for instance, to carry a complete set of articles, such as a large dish or plate A which is placed to abut against the extension M, l5 of the extension 53 and is braced against stops in form of loops l6, l1 forming the forward ends of the back rest l2. Another plate B is placed forwardly of plate A and is retained in its position by means of holding arms l8, 19' carrying the swingable platform l3a, whereby these holding arms l8, IS with their lower, forwardly projecting bends [8a, [9a press plate B to maintain its position against plate A.

As can be further seen from Fig. 3 a plate C is placed forwardly of plate B and isheld in; forward ends or stops forming loops 2!), 2 I. These loops 20, 2| constitute also the feet of the base ll having the substantially

22, 23. The upper end of plate C is engaged by transverse portions I81), [91) forming the transverse or inwardly turned extension parts of holding arms I8, IQ of platform Isa. This plate C thus comes to lie rearwardly of these transverse arm parts 1812,19?) and efiectuates a brace or support for platform l3a consisting of an open loop 25, having spaced forwardly directed extension parts 24a, 24b. The open loop 25 is adapted to receive a, saucer D and cup E held by said saucer, as seen in Fig. 3.

Within the upper space formed between plate B and plate C and in engagement with the forwardly directed arm portions I and I is'a small dish or plateF which abuts against knee shaped upper hinges l8d and I 9d forming integral parts of holding arms l8 and i9, respectively.

If it is desired to display a set of plates A, B; and C of different dimensions without articles D, E and F, all that is. to be done is to withdraw upper extension l3 from

It will be readily gathered from the aforesaid disclosure that the adjustability of the back rest l2 with respect to the base H and of the extension IS with respect to the back rest l2 permits of easy arrangement of the movable parts of this device with respect to each other so that the point of gravity of the display device when loaded with a complete dinner set of crockery or chinaware will be located under most favorable conditions. Such complete set of table ware may consist of a large dinner plate A, salad plate B, soupplate C, saucer D, cup E and dessert plate F which, in accordance with this invention, can be so grouped and. displayed on thedevice that the same remains firm and stable, although a relatively small base is employed.

It is well understood that instead of sleeve members 26, 2'! and instead of

32, 33 and I6, I! other coupling means can be employed to bring about adjustability of the extension [3 with respect to the back rest 52 and of the back rest l2 with respect to the base I I.

It can thus be seen that there has been provided in accordance with this invention a, display stand for a complete set of table crockery or chinaware comprising a substantially U-shaped base including two substantially horizontal arms, a substantially U-shaped back rest, means connected to said back rest and slidably engaging said arms of said base, said back rest including two substantially parallel upright arms, a. U- shaped extension, a platform, said U-shaped extension having two substantially parallel upright arm extensions, and coupling means connecting said upright arms and said upright arm exten sions, respectively, and for removal from each other, said platform being pivoted to said extension, whereby said platform may assume a, posi-- tion forwardly and rearwardly of said extension, respectively, and above said base.

Although the invention has been described with reference to certain specific embodiments thereof, it is to be distinctly understood that various modifications and adaptations of the arrangements herein disclosed may be made and may readily occur to persons skilled in the art without constituting a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the objects and in the appended claims.

Havin thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

1. A display stand for a complete set of table crockery, chinaware or the like comprising a substantially U-shaped base including two substantially horizontal arms, a substantially U- shaped back rest slidably connected to said base, said back rest including two substantially parallel upright arms, a U-shaped extension, a platform, said U-shaped extension having two substantially parallel upright arm extensions, and coupling means substantially alignedly connecting said upright arms and said upright arm extensions, respectively, and for removal from each other,

-. said platform being pivoted to said extension whereby said platform may assume a position forwardly and rearwardly of said extension, respectively, and above said base.

2. A display stand for a complete set of table crockery or chinaware comprising a substantially U-shaped base including two substantially horizontal arms, a ubstantially U-shaped back rest, means connected to said back rest and slidably engaging said arms of said base, said back rest including two substantially parallel upright arms, a U-shaped extension, 2. platform, said U-shaped extension saving two substantially parallel up right arm extensions, and sleeve means removably connecting said upright arms and said upright arm extensions, said platform being pivoted to said extension whereby said platform may assume a position forwardly and rearwardly of said extension, respectively, and above said base.

3. A display stand for chinaware and like articles comprising a substantially U-shaped base having two substantially parallel horizontal arms and a transverse member interconnecting said arms, said arms terminating in looped ends, a back rest carried by said base and including an upwardly extending U-shaped support including two substantially parallel leg elements, one of the ends of each leg element being provided with spaced p portions, a connector piece joining the loop portions of eachv leg element together, said connector pieces extending substantially parallel to said horizontalarms of said base whereby said back rest is slidably supported by said loop portions on said horizontal arms of said base, extension means for said back rest, and means located on said back rest for removably receiving said extension means, whereby the latter may be moved lengthwise of said u-shaped support and substantially perpendicular to said arms of said base.

4. A display stand for chinaware and like articles comprising a substantially U-shaped base having two substantially parallel horizontal arms and a transverse member at one end of said arms for interconnecting said horizontal arms, the other end of each arm forming a looped end,

a back rest carried by said base and including an upwardly extending U-shaped support including two substantially parallel leg elements having forward ends, the forward end of each leg element being provided with a pair of spaced guide loop portions, a connector piece for each pair of guide loop portions and extending substantially parallel to said arms of said base whereby said back rest is slidably supported through said guide loop portions by and along said arms of said base, and coupling means on said support adapted to slidably and removably receive an extension and for removal from said support.

5. A display stand according to claim 4, wherein one of said guide loop portions of each leg element forms a handle-shaped stop.

6. A display stand for chinaware and like articles comprising in combination a substantially U-shaped base having two substantially parallel horizontal arms and a transverse member interconnecting said arms, said arms terminating in looped ends, said looped ends and said transverse member being shaped and arranged with respect to said arms to form a prop for the latter whereby said arms are spaced from a surface on which said base is placed therefor, a back rest on said base and provided with an upwardly extending U-shaped support including two substantially parallel leg elements, each leg element being provided with spaced loop portions through which said arms are threaded, a connector piece for each leg element and joining the loop portions of each leg element together, whereby said back rest is slidably supported by said loop portions along said arms of said base, extension means for said back rest, and means on said support for receiving said extension means and for removal therefrom, whereby the extension means may be moved lengthwise of said support and substantially perpendicular to said arms of said base.
