Description
J. RESNICK Sept. 29, 1936.
DISPLAY BAG Filed Feb. 8, 1956 Rh, 8 ww Nn R E5 O We n IH A S u ./.LY u J0 Patented Sept. 29, 1936 UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE DISPLAY BAG Julius Resnick, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application February 8, 1936, Serial No. 62,896
2 Claims.
My invention relates to ladies handbags, and accessories of similar character, such as pocketbooks, muffs, and the like; and to the display, in
connection therewith, of
various articles of jewelry, ornamentation and utility such as watches, vanity cases, compacts, cigarette cases,
and the like.
The main object of my invention is to provide, within a ladies handbag or like article, a separate receptacle for receiving a watch or other article of ornamentation or utility, and providing the receptacle can be easily Seen.
A further object of my invention is to provide, in a device of the character described, registering openings in the outer receptacle and inner receptacle, and means to clearly dene said openings and to secure said receptacles in the opening-registering relationship.
A further object of my invention is to provide an inner receptacle of such character as to cooperate with the article to be disposed therewithin to keep said article from becoming displaced relatively to the opening therein.
Further objects of my invention will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinbelow in connection with the description of an illustrative embodiment. In the annexed drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a ladies handbag with an interiorly disposed receptacle secured in accordance with and embodying my invention, and showing a watch thereinside; the receptacle and watch being shown in broken lines;
Fig. 2 is a section on the and line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of a portion of Fig. 2, showing in detail the connection between the inner and outer receptacles. It will be understood that my invention is not to be limited to ladies handbags and to watches displayed therein, but that these have been chosen for illustrative and explanatory purposes.
Broadly, I provide an opening through one side of a handbag or article of similar nature communicating with the interior thereof. I then provide a smaller receptacle, of size suicient to receive the article to be displayed, and form an opening therein also.
Next, I dispose the smaller receptacle inside the larger, with the openings in registry and secure the two together in such position by means of a metal eyelet staple, which serves also to clearly dei-lne the limits of the openings, whereby the article within the smaller 5 receptacle is visible through the openings from without.
In the drawing, handbag II) of conventional size and shape, has opening I2 formed in one side II thereof, the opening being completely through lo the several thicknesses of outer material, inner lining, etc., all of which I have shown as single thickness II. For purposes of my invention the material of which the handbag is made might be leather, canvas, or any suitable fabric.
To receive the article to be displayed, such as watch I4, for example, receptacle I6 is provided, of size suicient to receive said watch. Receptacle I6 may similarly be of leather, canvas, or any suitable material. One side I8 of receptacle I6 is provided with an extension 26 which is long enough to be bent over to act as a closure for said receptacle, the other side 22 of said receptacle and extension 20 being provided with cooperating snapl means 24 whereby the receptacle may be closed. An opening 26 is formed in side I8, and the receptacle I6 is so disposed within bag I0 that said opening 26 is placed in registry with opening I2 in bag I0. I secure the two receptacles in this position by means of an annular metal eyeletstaple 28, betweenthe bent over walls 30 and 32 of which sides II of bag Ill and I8. of the receptacle I 6 are firmly gripped and locked. This metal staple 28 not only serves to secure the two receptacles in the opening registering relationship but also defines the limits of the openings.
Watch I4 is disposed within receptacle I6 with dial I5 thereof facing opening 26 and same therefore will be clearly visible through the several openings. Cover extension 26 is provided with an opening 34 therein, through which stem 36 of watch I4 is protruded so that watch I4 will not roll about thereinside, but will be kept in the position in which it is placed within the receptacle, so that the time may be read easily and without any difficulty. Any ordinary handbag, mui, etc. can be converted into the more attractive and useful display bag with my invention, the operations involved therein being simple and mechanically easy of performance by a skilled workman.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a handbag and an opening in one side thereof, a second and smaller bag having bottom, side and end walls, with an opening in one of the side walls thereof, said second bag being disposed within the rst with the sides having the openings abutting and the openings in registry, and secured in such position by means of an annular ring which outlines said registering openings and clamps between the Walls thereof those portions of the first and second bags beyond the peripheries of the openings.
2. A device as in claim 1, in which the inner bag is provided with an extension from the side of the inner bag having the opening therein, said extension also having an opening therein adapted to cooperate with the article to be placed Within the bag to keep the same in one position.
JULIUS RESNICK.
