The flanges l6 are provided with recesses or slots 20, extending vertically for substantially the entire length of the flanges l6. These slots 20 receive the pivot pins 2|, which pivot pins are connected to the bosses 22 at the lower corners of the watch casing C.

The heads 23 of the pivot pins 2| hold said pins 22 in position in the slots 20.

As is shown best in Figures 1, 3 and 5, the side portions of the watch, at 24, may be thinner than the remainder of the body of the watch so that the back face 25 of the watch body C will be flush with the outside faces of the flanges I8.

As indicated best in Figure 5, the crystal or glass 25 may closely contact with the base of front portion l2 of the holder B when the watch is in closed position.

As indicated in Figures 2 and 6 when the watch is moved to its uppermost position, it may then be turned outwardly with the portion of the watch body adjacent the pivots 2| resting on the top portions I! of the flanges i8.

When the watch is thus turned outwardly the dial will directly face the wearer of the watch, who will be substantially above and be able to read the watch looking downwardly. The winding and setting stem 21 will be readily available either in this position or in the position of Figures 1, 3 and 5 to enable winding or setting of the hands of the watch C.

In assembly the bosses 22 are provided with tapped sockets which are designed to receive the threaded ends of the pivot pins 2|. The watch without the pivot pins 2| in position may be inserted in the holder so that its tapped sockets will be aligned with the slots 20.

When in such position, the pivot pins 2| may be readily screwed home.

The holder B may be readily made of any sheet metal stock and it may have a silver or gold finish. Various sizes may be employed to accommodate different shapes and designs oi watches and the flanges l8 may, if desired, be expanded sumciently to eliminate the necessity of indenting the sides of the watch as indicated at 21.

The belt A may be readily slipped into position in the recess l5, and when desired, the watch may be removed from the belt or garment and utilized as a desk or table watch in the manner indicated in Figure 6.

It is thus evident that the applicant has provided an inexpensive, yet neat and attractive looking holder for a watch which may be utilized with or without slight modification in the watch body.

The watch C will always be readily available for consultation by the wearer and, at the same time, although it is carried on an exposed portion of the clothing of the wearer, it will be protected securely against theft.

Furthermore, the very same holder may be utilized as a desk watch, as indicai ed in Figure 6.

Without substantial modification, the holder combination of Figures 1 to 6 may be utilized in connection with a belt buckle as shown in Figure 7, a pocket as shown in Figures 8 and 9, a handbag as shown in Figure 10, or a wrist band or a suspender strap as shown in Figure 11.

Referring to Figure 7 the holder B constitutes part of a belt buckle, which has an outstanding ring 30 through which is passed the turned over portion 3| of the belt section 32. The front section 33 of the belt passes directly through the recess l5 within the holder B.

The flanges l6 and I8 and the watch body 0' are of the same construction as illustrated in Figures 1 to 6.

In the embodiments of Figures 8 and 9, the holder B is reversed so that the flange I8 will be in the inside.

The base portion i2 is cut away as indicated at 34 and is provided with a tapped recess 36 receiving the flnger screw 31. The screw 31 flts through an opening in the pocket 38 of the garment A and holds the combination securely in position.

In Figure 10, the portions l3 and H are omitted and the rear plate I2 is welded or otherwise connected to a backing plate 39 which is connected at 40 to the side I ofa pocketbook construction A The flanges I6 and I8 of the watch holder C may be of the same construction as already shown and described in connection with Figures 1 to 6.

The pocketbook A may be readily opened at its lips 42 by unlatching the lock 43 and articles may be removed or replaced without disturbing the watch C or preventing access thereto.

The varying embodiments shown in Figures 6 to 11 illustrate the widespread modification and application of the holder of the present invention and its adaptability of many varied and dlfierent uses.

It is apparent that the specific illustrations shown above have been given by way of illustration and not by way of limitation and that the structures above described are subject to wide variation and modification without departing from the scope or intent of the invention, all of which variations and modifications are to be included within the scope of the present invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A holder construction comprising a rectangular sheet metal base, attachment means on said base to enable attachment of said base to an article of wearing apparel, holder means on said base to receive a watch or similar device to be worn about the person of the user, said holder means being arranged to permit close positioning of the watch against the base and also optional separation of the watch from the base without detachment from the base to permit consultation thereof, said base being formed of. sheet metal and having forwardly and upwardly extending flanges perpendicular to said base and of substantially the same length as said base and inwardly extending flanges at the top of said perpendicular flanges parallel to the base and of decreased length as compared to said perpendicular flanges, constituting said holder means, the forwardly extending flanges being provided with slots and the watch being provided with sliding guide means received in said slots.

A holder construction comprising a rectangular sheet metal base, attachment means on said base to enable attachment of said base to an article of wearing apparel, holder means on said base to receive a watch or similar device to be worn about the person of the user, said holder means being arranged to permit close positioning of the watch against the base and also optional separation of the watch from the base without detachment from the base to permit consultation thereof, said holder means consisting oi. flanges extending outwardly from said base, said flanges having portions at the ends thereof to hold said watch against said base, which portions terminate substantially short of one side of said flanges, and said watch being provided with means pivotally engaging said flanges.

A watch and holder combination adapted to be readily associated with a belt, a suspender strap, a pocketbook, a wrist band or a pocket, comprising a rectangular base provided with means for attachment to the article of apparel, flanges at the opposite vertical sides of said base extending perpendicularly away from said base, extension flanges extending inwardly parallel to the base from the outer edges of said first mentioned side flanges covering said base, a watch positioned between said base and said second mentioned parallel flanges, longitudinal slots extending substantially the entire length 01 said first mentioned side flanges, and pivot pins extending through said slots and connected through said watch.

4. A watch and holder combination adapted to be readily associated with a belt, a suspender strap, a pocketbook, a wrist band or a pocket, comprising a rectangular base provided with means for attachment to the article of apparel, flanges at the opposite vertical sides of said base extending perpendicularly away from said base, extension flanges extending inwardly parallel to the base from the outer edges said first mentioned side flanges covering said base, a watch positioned between said base and said second mentioned parallel flanges, longitudinal slots extending substantially the entire length of said first mentioned side flanges, and pivot pins extending through said slots and connected through said watch, said second mentioned flanges being an article of wearing apparel, holder means on said base to receive a watch or similar device to be worn about the person of the user, said holder means being arranged to permit close positioning of the watch against the base and also optional separation of the watch from the base without detachment from the base to permit a consultation thereof, said holder means consisting of two flanges extending upwardly perpendicular to the base from two opposite sides of the base, slideways in said flanges and means on the watch to engage said slideways and to permit sliding movement of the watch within said holder means and inturned portions on the ends 01' said flanges to prevent separation of the watch from the base until the watch is moved to the end of the holder means with the major portion of the watch proiecting out of the holder means.

6. A holder construction comprising a rectangular sheet metal base, attachment means on said s base to enable attachment of said base to an article of wearing apparel, holder means on said base to receive a watch or similar device to be worn about the person of the user, said holder means being arranged to permit close positioning of the watch against the base and also optional separation of the watch from the base without detachment from the base to permit consultation thereof said attachment means taking the form of a ring pivotally mounted on one side of said base, said holder means consisting of two flanges extending upwardly perpendicular to the base from two opposite sides of the base, slideways in said flanges and means on the watch to engage said slideways and to permit sliding movement of the watch within said holder means and inturned portions on the ends of said flanges to prevent separation of the watch from the base until the watch is moved to the end of the holder means with the major portion of the watch projecting out or the holder means.

A holder construction comprising a base, attachment means on said base to enable attachment of said base to an article of wearing apparel, holder means on said base to receive a watch or similar device to be worn about the person of the user, said holder means being arranged to permit close positioning of the watch against the base and also optional separation of the watch from the base without detachment from the base to permit consultation thereof, said holder means consisting of outwardly directed flanges perpendicular to said base and inwardly directed flanges at the ends 01' said outwardly directed flanges and said outwardly directed flanges each having a slot and said watch being provided with pivot means received in said slots, said holder means and said attachment means respectively permitting sliding movement of the watch with respect to the base and of the base with respect to the wearing apparel, said outwardly directed flanges preventing lateral movement of the watch and said inwardly directed flanges preventing separation or the watch until it has been moved to one end oi! said holder means.
