Description

Patented Jan.vl`4, 19736?` ws'rnmoor croamsr'rs onsev o s James Edward Walker, Dallas, Tex.' Appueantnnpru e, 1935, serial Nu. 15,102
z claims; (orgue-3s) o o This invention relates to cigarette cases and i o, an object of the invention `is to provide a case with improvedmeans for sealing thecase so as In accordance with the present invention, a 1` case ofthe characterlaboveA mentioned is provided with a compartment for receiving cigarettes, also a compartment for` accommodating a ciga- "`rette lighter, together with additional compartments or inner containers for miscellaneous pur,-
1 poses such as for carrying change, powder, and
the like. l
n The invention together with its objects and` advantages will `be bestunderstood from a study `of the following description takenin connection ,i o Y o o o to the substantially vertical position shown in with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure" 1 isatop plan view of the casewhen i closed.
e Figure 2 is asectional view lthrough the case when closed.` g
Figure Slis a fragmentary detail sectional view through one of the sections of the case and show- L ing the cigarettelighter in a substantially per-` L a 25 pendicular position.` t i f Figure 4 isa `plan View of the case when open. Figure 5 `is a fragmentary longitudinal seci tional View through the casewhenclosed o i Figure 6 is a view somewhat similar toFigure `5 through one section of the case.
Referring tothe drawings by reference nui merals it willbe seen that thecigarette case comprises a pair-of complemental sections 5 and 6 hinged together at one end by hinges 1. g At o said hinged end suitable springs such as indi.
cated at 8 and clearly shown in `Figure l may be utilized for 'causing the sections toswing to o an `open position. `It will be` understood in this g 40 connection that at the end thereof remote' from the hinges I the sections 5 and Swillbe provided with complementary fastening ineans for `releasably retaining thecasng closed.
j Each of the sections 5 and Ii is provided with l 45 relatively large pockets `9 and I0 respectively o for accommodating asuitable number of ciga- Y rettes II, spring retainers I2 beingalso provided `,for retaining the cigarettes within the respective pockets.
`5() Adjacent one end thereof the section `5has suitably provided therein, a compartment for miscellaneous objects, such as coins, lipstick, and` the like, and this compartment is provided with a hinged door` I3, as shown. Inthe same`` end "55 thereof, the casing SectOngs ,is 315,0 formed with to render the `same substantially waterproof V "5 when closed. i i
`ber or other suitable material that projects beyond to form compartments I'IandIB respectively. `5`
Also, provided in the casing section 5 is a ,par-Q tition I9 that forms a dividingwall between the compartment 9 on the onehand and the chamber I3 andpocket I4 on the other hand,`while the s ection 6 lsprovided with a mating partition 1d 'that separates the compartment I0 from the compartments -I-'I and I8. o
"The casingv o'f the lighter 'I5 in the present instance is provided with legs 2| hinged asat 22 `to` the partition I9 so that-the lighter I5 may` be swung from the position shown in Figurefi Figure -3 when inl use. For 'releasably retaining o the lighter I5 inthe vertical position shownA in Figure `3 'there is provided a spring"23 as shown. x 20 The wallsof the casing sections 5 and 6 are relatively thick andare provided with continuous `inner andV outer grooves 24Qandj25 respectively. Fitted within theouter groove 2II` of the casing4 section 5 isa continuous gasket 21 ofrub- 2 the side of the groove to-engage in the outer groove 24 of the section f6 when the casing is e `closed and as shown in` Figure 5. Also, asimilar l" gasket 28 is provided in the inner groove ofthe 30 casing section 6 andprojects 'beyond theouter side of this groove to be1-received inthe groove of the casing section 5 when the cigarette case is closed as also shown inFigure 5. i Also, and as shown the `partitions I9 and 20 35` are provided with channels or grooves 29v and i 30 respectively, andy tted, for example, in the channel 30 of thepartition12l)` is agasket strip. e 3| of rubber or other suitable` material that proi jects outwardly from the channel tozbe received in the channel or groove'29l of the' partition I9 when the casing is closed as also shown in Figure5.
. It` will be apparent thatby kthe provision of such groovesand gaskets, andthe fitting `of the gaskets withinthe grooves,l the case when closed will be substantially water tightand consequently can be used with convenience by bathers. o
Having thus described vthe invention, whatv is claimed as new is:` ,o ,i
1. `A box of the character described compriso ing a pair of complemental'sections each having a continuouswall provided with a pair of continuous spaced grooves,fa compressible gasket g secured in the outer continuous groove of one 5 opposite section.
2. A box of the characterv described comprising a pair of complemental sections each having va. continuous wall provided with a. pair of continuous spaced grooves, a. compressible gasket secured in the outer continuous groove of one of the sections and a compressible gasket secured in the inner groove of the other section each projecting beyond its groove and adapted to be received in the opposed mating groove of the opposite section, a hinge on the outside of said section, and a. fastening element for securing said sections together.
y JAMES EDWARD WALKER.
