Description
Patented May 20, 1924.
STATES FRED A. BOSS, 0]? LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
GARTER PURSE.
Application filed October 23, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED A. Ross, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and 6 State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garter Purses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garter purses of the type Worn by women, and has for its 10 principal object the provision of a garter purse particularly adapted for carrying cigarettes or other fragile articles, especially those that by their nature are required to be kept in a comparatively air tight space.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case of the above described character which is neat in design and low in manufacturing cost.
Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter. a
I have illustrated by .the accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of my invention. I
In the said drawings,
Figure 1, is a view in front elevation o the embodiment, and
Figure 2, is a view in section thereof seen on a line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
More specifically, in carrying out my invention in the embodiment shown, I employ a cigarette case 4, of the common book type, and comprising essentially two half sections 5 and 6 respectively. The sections are hinged together as at 7, and while section 5 is of suflicient depth to hold several cigarettes, section 6 acts as a closure therefor.
In conformance with a salient feature of my invention I provide a pair of opposed slots 9 and 10, respectively in section 5.
Said slots are of such size, and are so arranged, that an elastic band, or garter 11 may be passed through said holes and formed into a complete loop, or garter.
Serial No. 596,237.
It will be apparent now that when the device is employed as a garter, a portion of the elastic will extend across the open front of the section 5 and will act to retain the cigarettes in place, and Without crushing them. The section 6 maybe moved into open or closed position without interference with the elastic band.
It will be seen now that I have provided a simple and efficient garter purse which is well adapted for carrying cigarettes or other articles that should be kept substantiallyair tight while being protected against vibration and crushing, and which purse likewise permits of its contents, or a part thereof, be-
ing quickly and conveniently extracted, and
While I have shown and described a spe cific embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself to any specific embodiment, and may alter the construction and arrangement of parts as I desire or as occasion requires Without enlarging the scope of my invention and without departing from the spirit there- 'of, within the appended claims.-
I claim, 1. An article of the character described, including a metal case capable of containing articles, such as cigarettes, and a pliable band, capable of serving as a garter, passing through said case in a manner to secure said case to said band While serving to hold the contents of said case in place.
2. An article of the character described, including a metal case, capable of containing articles such as cigarettes, and an elastic loop capable of serving as a. garter passing through said case in a manner to secure said case to said band while serving to hold the contents of said case in place.
FRED A. ROSS.
