Description

Dec. 39,1930. EQDERWISH COMBINATION CIGARETTE ANDMATCH' BOX Filed' April 2v. i928.
S, INVENTOR Zzefzerwz ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Dec. 30, 1930 UNITED STATES COMBINATION CIGARETTE AND' MATCH BOX Application led April 27,
This invention relates to a combined cigarette and match holder, the general object of the invention being to provide a casing having a hinged cover, with latch means whereby the cover can be easily released so that it can be moved to open position with a pair of chambers in the casing for holding cigarettes and matches and with a mirror on one of the outer walls of the casing.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
' Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figures 5 and 6 are views showing a modication.
Referring to Figures l, 2, 3 and 4, the numeral l indicates a casing which is preferably of rectangular shape and 2 indicates a cover which is hingedly connected with the casing by the double hinge 3 so that it can be i easily moved to open or closed position. A
striking plate 4 is arranged in the cover so that matches can be ignited by moving the heads along the corrugated part of the striking plate and said plate is provided with a depending portion 5, a portion of which is offset from the interior wall of the cover and this offset portion is provided with a keeper recess 6 which is engaged by the latch part of a spring latch member 7 connected with one of the interior walls of the casing.
The latch member 7 carries a button 8 which extends through a hole 9 formed in the front of ythe easing so that by pressing upon this button, the latch member will be pushed away from the keeper carrying part of the striker plate so that the cover can be 1928. Serial No. 273,326.
moved to open position. A rectangular casing 107 with its ends open, is fastened to one of the interior walls of the large casing, this small casing 10 forming a receptacle for matches while the rest of the large casing is used for cigarettes. A polished plate 11, of metal, is fastened to the front of the casing 1 and forms a mirror, the button 8 passing through a hole formed in this plate.
In the modification, instead of placing the latch member within the casing, said latch member 7 is connected with an eXterior wall of the casing and has its latch part engaging a slot 6 formed in one end of the cover so that by moving this latch member outwardly to free it of the slot, the cover 2 can be moved to open position. This latch member is provided with a striking surface 12 for the matches. In other respects, this form of the invention is the same as that before described.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a combined cigarette and match holder with a mirror on its outer face, with a striker plate carried in the cover so that it will be handy for use when the cover is opened to take a match and a cigarette from the casing.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the character set forth comprising a rectangular casing having one end open and provided with an opening in one wall adjacent the open end, a flanged cover hinged to the casing for closing the open end thereof and having its top wall spaced from the open end of the casing when in a position to close the casing, a serrated plate secured to the inner face of the top wall of the cover and bent angularly to provide a keeper to extend into the casing and terminate adjacent the opening when the cover is in a closed position, said angular portion of the plate being olf-set and recessedV adjacent the free end thereof, an elongated spring catch having one end secured toI the interior of the casing adjacent the closed end thereof and having the free end angularly related to engage the recess for retaining the cover in a closed position, and ahutton secured to the catch and extending througlivthe opening t0 permit a person to disengage the catch from the keeper by pressing on the button. In testimony whereof I' alii-X my signature.
