The present invention relates to a ladys general utility case which is designed to permit a working girl to carry her lunch therein and has the outward appearance of a ladys purse, and which serves the dual purpose of being a purse as well as a lunch kit. This invention is a modified'form of thegeneral utility case disclosed in our copending application, Serial No. 163,026, filed May 19, 1950. i

It is among the objects of the present invention to provide a ladys general utility case which is constructed and arranged to be used simultaneously as a lunch kit and a ladys purse, and which is characterized by the novel arrangement of the compartments therein and the locations of the means for gaining access into said compartments, whereby the optimum functional benefits for which said general utility case is constructed and arranged may be derived; and further, which case is characterized by the ef ficient utilization of space therein, thereby to provide a case having a relatively large carrying capacity without having the appearance of being unduly large.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a general utility case fabricated from a suitable plastic material, or thelike, which case will have the outward appearance of .a ladys handbag while being adapted to be used to carry a lunch therein and to serve as a purse, and which can be fabricated by mass production methods from relatively few and simple parts to enable the cost thereof to be relatively low while permitting an attractive utility case to be produced.

Other objects of this invention will appear in the following description and appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts inv the several views.

Before explaining the present invention in detail it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, since the invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways.

Referring to the drawings, a preferred embodiment of the present invention can be seen wherein the general utility case is identified by the reference numeral 10. The general utility case ID has a purse compartment [2 in its upper portion and a lunch compartment [4 in its, lower portion. The lunch compartmentv M has a chamber it within which a vacuum bottle it or the like, can be contained. A chamber 20 is also provided in the lunch compartment 14 for carrying sandwiches or the like. If desired, the door 30 canbe maintained in a closed position by a lock construction which includes the clip .33 which can be snapped over the outwardly projecting portion 34 to be recessed in'the groove 36 formed in the portion 34. However, it should be understood that any other form of locking means may be used with the present invention.

The chamber [6 is relatively smaller than the remaining cham- 3 her 20 within the lunch compartment l4, and the latter chamber is provided so that sandwiches and the like,can be carried therein.

A relatively simple locking device is provided for locking the lunch compartment 14. The locking device includes a lug Bil which is adapted to fit within the cut away portion 62 in the lug 64. A clip 66 is pivotally mounted in the lug B4 and is adapted to be snapped over the lug B and over the lower portion of the lug 64 to be seated in the groove 68 in the lower portion of the two lugs. Again it should be understood that other suitable locking means may be used if desired.

The inverted L-sha-ped member 28 of which the door 30 is considered a part and the section member 44 are preferably constructed'from any suitable type oI plastic material. In fabricating these parts, a suitable decorative finish can be formed on the outer surfaces. However, it is contemplated that suitable covering-such as alligator skins or the like, may be used for covering the outer surfaces of the utility case, if desired.

From the above description, it can be seen that a ladys general utility case has been provided having a purse compartment; in the upper portion, which purse compartment is readily accessible for use at all times by the person carrying the utility case. The .purse compartment can be used at any time without the necessity of opening the lunch compartment and is sufliciently large to carry the various articles normally carried in ladies purses. The general utility case is constructed to provide a well-balanced unit, since the vacuum bottle is carried in the lower portion of the case. The general utility case is also constructed so that the lunch compartment can be completely opened and the lunch can be eaten without removin the contents of the lunch compartment and placing them on a table, lunch counter, or the like.

Further, it can be secn'that this ladys general utility'case is made from-a relatively few parts which can be easily constructed and easily assembled so that a'utility case of relatively low cost can be fabricated. Further, it is designed to utilize the space therein to the greatest advantage and to permit an attractive case to be provided.

- Having thus described our invention, we claim:

1, A ladys general utility case comprising an inverted L-s-haped section having a compartment in its cross member and with the leg thereof being hollow andopen on the inner side,'another section hingedly connected with the inverted L-sh-aped section along the respective lower edges of the sections, the second-named section being hollow and open on the side adjacent the first-named section with the edges of the respective open sides being in' abutting relationship to form a, compartment under the compartment in said cross member, and substantially horizontally disposed walls formed in each of said sections an equal distance above the hingedly connected edges to form two chambers within the secondnamed compartment.

2. A ladys general utility case comprising an inverted L-shaped section having a compartment in its cross member and with the leg thereof being hollow and open on the inne side, another section hingedly connected with the inverted L- shaped section along the respective lower edges 4 of the sections, the second-named section being hollow and open on the side adjacent the firstnamed section with the edges of the respective open sides being in abutting relationship to form a compartment under the compartment in said cross member, and substantially horizontally disposed walls formed in each of said sections an equal distance above the hingedly connected edges to form two chambers within the secondnamed compartment, said first-named compartment having a hingedly connected door forming the upper wall thereof.

A ladys general utility case comprising an inverted L-shaped section having a compartment in its cross member and with the leg thereof being hollow and open on the inner side, another section hingedly connectedto the inverted L- shaped section along the respective lower-edges of the sections, the second-named section being hollow and open on the side adjacent the firstnamed section with the edges of the respective open sides being in abutting relationship when the sections are in aclosed position to form a compartment under the compartmentflinsaid cross member, the upper side ofsaid'secondnamed section being open with the edges of the opening being in engagement with the lower edges of said cross member when said sections are in a closed position, and substantially horizontally disposed walls formed in each of said sections an equal distance abQVe the hingedly connected edges to form two chambers within the second-named compartment.

4. A lady's combination lunch kitand purse comprising an inverted L-shaped section having a purse compartment in its cross member and with the leg thereof being hollow and. open on the inner side, another section hingedly connected to the inverted L-shaped section along the espective lower edges of the sections, the secondnamed section being hollow and open on the side adjacent the first-named section with the edges of the respective open sides being in abutting relationship to form a lunch compartment under said purse compartment, substantially-horizontally disposed walls formed in each of said sections an equal distance above the hingedly connected edges to form two chambers within the lunch compartment, the lower chamber. being adapted to receive a vacuum bottle, said purse compartment having a hingedly connected door forming the upper wall thereof, means'for locking said door in a closed position, and means for locking said sections together in a closed position.
