COMBINATION HANDBAG AND MAKEUP KIT SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION which are accessible only when the bottom cover is opened.

Either cover may be considered the top cover and either may be considered the bottom cover. In this manner those items normally kept in a purse can be kept together and segregated in individual compartments accessible from one side by opening the appropriate cover. On the other hand those items normally kept in a makeup kit can be' kept in the separately accessible individual compartments accessible from the other side of the case. In addition, one or more separate compartments are provided having the same depth as the intermediate section of the case which are accessible by opening either the top cover or the bottom cover; These compartments are for articles or items which the user may desire to have access to at the time of using items either in the purse section or the makeup kit section of the case. Such articles might be such items as fountain pens, memorandum pads, wallets, address books, and other articles of this type. Accordingly, it may be seen that articles in three general categories are kept separate and organized in separate compartments within the case and that access may be had to them as desired from oneside or the other of the case.

In the light of the foregoing brief description, the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved case as described embodying the feature of the provision of means of keeping categories of articles segregated in opposite sides of the case and to which access may be had by opening either a top or bottom cover.

A further object is to provide an improved case of the type described in the foregoing object embodying additional compartments having the same depth as an intermediate section of the case whereby access may be had to these individual compartments by'opening either the top or bottom cover of the case.

Further objects and additional advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description and annexed drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing one side of the 'case with its cover open;

FIG. 2 is a perspective view similar to that of FIG. 1 showing the other side of the case with its cover open;

FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 33of FIG. 1; and

FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line 4-4 of FIG. 1.

Referring now more in detail to the various figures of the drawings, in FIG. I, numeral designates the case generally with the hinged cover 12 on one side, which may be said to be the top, open. The case has a generally rectilinear intermediate section 14 to which the cover 12 is hinged by way of conventional type hinges as shown at 16 and 18. The cover is recessed as shown at 18 and attached within the cover is a fabric holding compartment 20 having a slot opening 22 for the insertion of articles to be held therein. Numeral 26 designates a mirror mounted within the cover 12.

Within the intermediate section 14 is provided a platform or partition 30 and means to form individual compartments accessible only by opening the cover 12. These compartments are provided by partition members 32, 34, 36 and 38. The partition member 32 has a depth which is substantially half that of the depth of the intermediate section 10, the bottom of this compartment being formed by a part of the platform 30. The partitions 36 and 38 on the other end have the same depth as the intermediate section 14 and as will be described more in detail presently, access may be had to them either by opening the top cover 12 or the cover 42 on the opposite side of the case. Accordingly, itwill be seen that the partitions 32, 34, 36 and 38 provide a number of compartments. Those compartments that are accessible only by opening the cover 12 are for those items that are normally kept in a ladies purse such as pocketbooks and wallets and other items in this category. The compartments that have the same depth as the intermediate section 14 are accessible by opening either cover as described and are for articles in the category of such things as memorandum pads, address books, etc., as to which it is desired that access can be had to by either cover. The cover I2 has conventional metal hardware fittings for holding it closed including the metal bracket 40 and clasp or hasp 50 which fits over a holding pin 52 on bracket 54 on the intermediate section 14.

FIG. 2 shows the other side of the case with the other cover 42 open. This cover is similar to the cover 12 having inside recess 56 within which is a fabric pocket 58 closed by zipper 60 for holding articles therein. It has a similar cover bracket 62 and clasp 64 which cooperates with similar holding pin on the intermediate section I4. The cover 42 is hinged to the intermediate section by similar piano type hinges 66 and 68. FIG. 2 shows the opposite side of the platform 30. Between the partitions 34 and 38 on this side of the platform 30 is a transverse partition 70. Between the partition 34 and the end wall of the intermediate section 14 is formed a compartment which is accessible by opening the cover 42. The compartments which are accessible only by opening the cover 42 may be utilized for items such as normally included in a makeup kit, for example, jewelry, glasses and similar articles of this type. As illustrated the compartments which are accessible from either side are for items that fit into compartments of this depth and which are items that it is desired that access can be had to from either side of the case.

It will be observed that when the covers are closed the holders in the recesses in the covers hold articles in position in the compartments under the covers.

From the foregoing, those skilled in the art will understand the nature and construction of the invention and the manner in which it achieves and realizes all of the objects as set forth in the foregoing and the many advantages as well that are apparent from the detailed description. The invention has been described in exemplary form referring to top and bottom covers. It could be embodied in an article having side doors or covers with transverse compartments accessible from either side.

The foregoing disclosure is representative of a preferred form of the invention and is to be interpreted'in an illustrative rather than a limiting sense, the invention to be accorded the full scope of the claims appended hereto.

Iclaim:

l. A carrying case comprising a plurality of case sections, at least two of said sections being exterior sections having an exterior surface and having hinged attachment for opening, means within the case providing compartments including compartments which are accessible only upon opening one of said hinged sections and compartments which are accessible upon opening the other of the hinged section, and at least one further compartment which is accessible upon opening of either of said hinged sections.

2. A carrying case as in claim I wherein each of said exterior sections is internally recessed.

3. A carrying case as in claim 1 including means provided in said hinged sections for carrying articles, and adapted to hold articles in position in the said compartments when the hinged sections are closed.

4. A carrying case comprising a plurality of case sections, at least two of said sections being exterior sections having an exterior surface and having hinged attachment for opening, means within the case providing compartments including compartments which are accessible upon opening one of said hinged sections and compartments which are accessible upon opening the other of the hinged sections, and at least one further compartment which is accessible upon opening of either of said hinged sections, said compartments including an end compartment which is accessible upon opening either of the hinged sections and a side compartment which is accessible upon opening of either of the hinged sections the case having an intermediate section with said end and side compartments extending entirely through said intermediate sections.

5. A carrying case comprising a plurality of case sections, at least two of said sections being exterior sections having an exterior surface and having hinged attachments for opening,

means within the case providing compartments including compartments which are accessible upon openingone of said hinged sections and compartments which are accessible upon opening the other of the hinged sections, and at least one further compartment which-is accessible upon opening of either of said hinged sections, and an intermediate section to which the exterior sections are hinged, some of said compartments having a depth less than that of the intermediate section and at least one compartment having the same depth as said intermediate section.
