Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/276,419, filed Jan. 8, 2016, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to, and more particularly to hair styling tools, such as for barbers, and more particularly to organizers for clippers and other hair styling tools.
  • Currently in the art, barbers and hair stylists encounter the problem of screwing hooks into a styling station in order to hang clippers from. The cords can get in the stylists way and can become tangled with other clippers hung from the hooks.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for a barber tool organizer that eliminates the stylist's tools from being scattered around a work station, because tools are compartmentalized inside of the tray.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a barber tool organizer, is disclosed and claimed in which the organizer includes an elongate tray having a bottom surface and upstanding sidewalls defining an interior cavity. A plurality of cord slots are defined in a spaced apart relation in a front sidewall of the tray, the cord slots are configured to receive a power cord extending from an end of a hair clipper. The tray includes a plurality of bins within the interior cavity of the elongate tray that are configured to receive a hair styling accessory. The tray may have a padded liner covering a bottom interior surface of the tray. The padded liner is formed of one of rubber, silicone, neoprene, or the like. Preferably, the cord slot extends from a top edge of the tray to a depth such that the power cord does not contact an edge surface of the cord slots. The tray may also be configured with a handhold opening defined in a left and a right lateral sidewall of the tray. The organizer may include an optional lid dimensioned to cover a top opening of the tray.
  • The plurality of bins may include: a first bin configured to receive a styptic powder container; a second bin configured to receive an oiler; a third bin that is substantially rectangular in shape and is configured to receive a supply of razor blades; and a fourth bin having a height greater than half the height of the sidewall, the fourth bin is configured to receive one of a styling shear or straight razor handle. The plurality of bins are preferably located proximal to the corners of the tray.
  • In other aspects of the invention, a hairstyling tool organizer, is provided with an elongate tray having a bottom surface and upstanding sidewalls defining an interior cavity. A left and a right lateral sidewall of the tray each have a handhold opening. A plurality of cord slots extend from a top edge of the tray and are defined in a spaced apart relation in a front sidewall of the tray. The plurality of cord slots have a depth such that a power cord of a clipper carried in the tray does not contact an edge surface of the cord slots. A plurality of bins are provided within the interior cavity of the elongate tray with the plurality of bins configured to receive a hair styling accessory. In some embodiments, an optional lid is dimensioned to cover a top opening of the tray.
  • In various embodiments, the at least one of the plurality of bins is configured to contain a source of razor blades. At least one of the plurality of bins may also be configured to contain a straight razor handle. Another of the plurality of bins is configured to contain a pair of shears. In like manner, another of the plurality of bins is configured to contain a styptic powder container. Yet another of the plurality of bins is configured to contain an oiler. The hairstyling tool organizer may also have a padded liner covering a bottom interior surface of the tray.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an overhead perspective view of an embodiment of a clipper station of the present invention shown in use.
  • FIG. 2 is an overhead perspective view of the clipper station.
  • FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 is an overhead perspective view of an empty clipper station and an optional lid.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • Broadly, embodiments of the present invention provide an organizer tray for keeping hair styling tools stored in a tray when not in use.
  • A barber tool organizer 10 of the present invention reduces the wear and breakage of a hair clipper 28 and power cords 29 for the clipper 28. Instead of laying the barber clippers 28 inside of a drawer or hanging the clippers 28 from hooks around the barber's or hair stylists work station, the organizer 10 provides a convenient and orderly tray for the tools. As will be appreciated, the organizer 10 also helps keep hairstyling professionals organized. The clipper station 10 of the present invention will also make cleaning a work station easier by providing handles on each side for easy movement of tools as the hair stylist changes work stations.
  • As seen in reference FIGS. 1 through 4, the clipper station 10 according to the present invention provides an elongate tray 12 for storing and organizing a plurality of barber and hairstylist tools. The elongate tray 12 may be generally rectangular in shape and has upstanding sidewalls 11 around the periphery of the tray 12 to retain a plurality of barber tools therein. The front sidewall 11 has a plurality of slots 14 defined in a spaced apart relation having an opening along a top edge of the front sidewall 11. Preferably slots 14 are defined having a depth to allow for the passage of a clipper cord 29 for one or more clippers 28 retained in the tray 12 without contact with an edge of the slot 14 so as to reduce wear on the cord 29 interface with the clipper 28. The lateral sidewalls 11 of the tray 12 have a slot 13 defined therein so as to provide a carrying hand hold 13 for the tray 12. The tray 12 may be made of any suitable material such as wood, metal, plastic, acrylic, and the like. Preferably, the tray 12 is formed of a transparent plastic so as to provide visibility to assist in locating styling tools contained therein. The tray 12 may have a lateral length between the hand holds 13 of about 18 inches and a width from the front sidewall 11 to a rear sidewall, that is at least greater than that of a clipper 28, generally on the order of about 8½ inches. The sidewall 11 may have a height of about 3 inches.
  • The interior surfaces, such as a bottom surface of the tray interior may be provided with a liner 13 to protect the clippers 28 when they are placed within the tray 12 and also during transport of the tray 28. More preferably, the liner 13 is made of a padded, non-slip, resilient material, such as rubber, silicone, neoprene, or the like. The bottom surface of the tray 12 may also be provided with a plurality of protective feet so as to protect the counter top where the clipper station 10 may be placed.
  • As indicated, the design of the clipper station 10 is also meant to help organize other barber/stylist tools. A plurality of containers, or bins may be defined within the tray 12 for storage of these other tools. In a corner of the tray 12 a first bin 20 may be defined to provide containment of a styptic powder 22. A second bin 24, which may be a cylindrical shaped bin, may be defined in another corner area to provide containment for an oiler 23, so that the barber or stylist may have ready access to a source of oil for lubricating the clippers 28. Proximal to yet another corner, a third bin 16, which may be a substantially rectangular shaped bin is formed for providing storage for a supply of razor blades 18. A fourth bin storage location 24 having tall bin walls, greater than half the height of the sidewall 11 and a narrow opening is also defined for the storage of one or more styling tools such as a straight razor handle 26, a pair of shears 27. The interior of the tray 12 may also have space for containing a clipper attachment 30, such as a comb guide, a styling comb, and the like. A neck clip 32 may be clipped around the peripheral edge of the tray 12, when not in use.
  • The clipper station 10 provides an efficient, organized design that will hold each clipper 28 in place while reducing the stress on cords. The clipper station 10 may also include a lid 24 to cover the top opening of the tray 12. The lid 24 may include a carrying handle 36 and may be detachably coupled to the tray 12 via one or more latches. The handles 15 on each side of the tray 12, make moving the tray 12 with tools organized and stowed inside very convenient. This design also helps the barber/stylist remain organized, as cleaning and sterilizing tools is an industry requirement.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
