Description

Oct. 23, 1934. J. SUPPES.
MILK BOTTLE HOLDER Filed March a, 1954 Patented Oct. 23, 1934 PATENT I 1,978,033 MILK BoT'rLE HOLDER Jacob Suppes, La Crosse, Kans. Application March 3,1934, Serial No. 713,940 1 Claim. (01. 248-65) This invention relates to bottle holders and more particularly to a device for releasably holding aflmilk bottle in a suspended position from a support.
An object of this invention is to provide a holder for a flanged neck bottle such as a milk bottle, in a suspended and outstanding position from a support.
Another object of this invention is to provide A an exceedingly simple holder which can be readily attached to a support such as a post, wall or the like, for holding a bottle in upwardly spaced relation to a floor and thereby prevent disturbance of the bottle by animals.
A further object of this invention is to provide a holder constructed in a manner whereby the bottle is mounted in the holder and removed therefrom by horizontal sliding movement.
The above and various other objects and advan- 1 tages of thisinvention will in partbe described and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a detail top plan View of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention, having a bottle mounted thereon and the device mounted on a support, the bottle and support being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a sectional view partly in detail taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the views, the letter B designates generally a bottle such as a milk bottle or the like,
which is provided with a neck having a flange or rim 13 on the upper end thereof. In order to hold the bottle B in suspended relation from a support and in outstanding relation to the support, I have provided an arcuate bottle engaging member 11 which is mounted in an arcuate recess 12 provided in a base block 14. The arcuate strap or bottle engaging member 11 is secured in the arcuate recess 12 of the block 14 by means of 1 a screw 15 or othersecuring means.
.wardly extending arm 23.
taching members in the form of screws 21' or the like, and these bars extend in the direction of the extensions 18 and engage on the inner side of the lug 19. A; spring 22 is disposed on the outer side of each clamping arm 16, these springs 22 60 having one end engaged with the extension 18 and the other end engaged with the bar or strap so as to constantly urge the movable clamping arms 16 inwardly and about the periphery of the neck 10 of the bottle. Inpractice, the opposed 65,. extensions 18 are held inspaced relation to each other by means of the stop lugs 19 which engage the outer side of the strips 20.
Each strip or bar 21 is provided. with an out- A substantially cir- 7,0, cular support or clamping bar24 provided with spaced ears 25 engages about a supporting post 26 and is held in tight position by means of a tightening bolt 27 having a nut 28 threadably. mounted thereon. A lug 29 is formed with one Z5 of the ears 25 and holds the nut 28 against turning. A pair of bracing members 30 have their inner ends 31 attached to the clamping member 24 and each brace 30 has an outwardly extending lug or extension 32 formed therewith which engages against the inner side of the outwardly extendinglugs or extensions 23, and these lugs 32 are secured to the lugs 23 as by bolts or securing members 33. The holder supporting clamp comprising the arcuate member 24 and the bracing members 30, provides one means for holding the bottle holder hereinbefore described in an outstanding substantially horizontal position on a support. Where a different shaped support 26 is provided for the holder, the shape of the clamping member 24 will be varied as it is obvious this clamping member 24 may be of rectangular or any other configuration depending on the type of support for the holder.
In the use and operation of the holder herein 95, described, the clamping member 24 is attached to the support 26 in the desired position by means of the bolt 27. In this position, the inner edge of the base 14 will substantially contact with the adjacent peripheral portion of the clamping member 2 1. When it is desired to insert a bottle in the holder, the neck 10 of the bottle is pressed against the opposed andout-turned members 18 and then moved inwardly in a horizontal movement. Pressure on the extensions 18 of the clamping arms 16 will compress the springs 22 and move the arms or extensions 18 outwardly, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 with respect to one of the arms. When the neck of the bottle B is adjacent the fixed clamping member 11, the 0 springs 22 will force the arms 16 inwardly so that they will engage snugly about the periphery of the bottle neck 10 below the fiange or rim 13. In this position, the bottle B will be suspended from the holder and may be removed therefrom by a reverse movement from that hereinbefore set forth.
It will be noted from the foregoing that an exceedingly simple and at the same time practical holder has been provided whereby a bottle can be detachably suspended from a suitable support such as a post or, if desired, from a wall in a position where the bottle will not be disturbed by animals or the like.
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is:
A holder as set forth, comprising a base memher, said base member having an arcuate recess in one edge thereof, an arcuate fixed clamping member disposed in said recess, a pair of swingable clamping arms secured one to each end of said fixed clamping member, out-turned oppositely extending extensions integral with each arm, a pair of elongated straps secured one to each side of said base and extending forwardly therefrom in the direction of said extensions, lugs carried by said extensions engaging the outer ends of said straps to limit the inward swinging movement of said extensions and said swingable clamping arms, a pair of springs disposed one between each extension and the confronting face of a strap to constantly urge said extensions and said clamping arms into clamping position, outturned lugs integral with the inner ends of each strap, an arcuate clamping member for engagement about a support, said arcuate clamping member comprising a curved strap, opposed ears carried by said strap, a tightening member engaging said ears, bracing members secured to said curved strap, out-turned lugs integral with said bracing members, and means for securing the out-turned lugs of the bracing members to the out-turned lugs of said first straps.
