Description

D. A. SIX
BOTTLE HOLDER July 22, 1958 Filed Nov. 16, 1955 David A. Six INVENTOR.
BY flwmsfim I Attorney:
United States Patent ()fiice 2,844,346 Patented July 22, 1958 The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for milk and other bottles and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a household device comprising novel means for dispensing the contents of such containers in a convenient, sanitary manner.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a holder of the aforementioned character comprising a unique construction and arrangement of parts for receiving and retaining the container.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a bottle or container holder of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle holder constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view, showing, in broken lines, a bottle being inserted in the device; and,
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a substantially U-shaped frame of suitable dimensions and material which is designated generally by reference character 5. The frame 5 includes a substantially square bottom or base 6 having formed integrally therewith a pair of spaced, opposed, upstanding arms 7 which comprise resilient, inwardly curved upper portions 8. Also formed integrally with the edges of the base 6 are upwardly curved bottle retaining flanges or lips 9.
Journaled on rivets 10 for rotation in a vertical plane between the upper portions of the arms 7 is a substantially square band 11. Offsets or substantially U-shaped intermediate portions 12 in the arms 7 receive the band 11 when said band is in horizontal or operative position.
One of the arms 7 terminates in a reversely bent upper portion formed to provide a handle 13 having its free end portion riveted, as indicated at 15, to said one arm.
It is thought that the use of the holder will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. In Figure 2 of the drawing, reference character 14 indicates a square milk bottle, for example, to be mounted in the holder. This is readily accomplished by rotating the band 11' into parallelism with the vertical arms 7. The band 11 is then slipped downwardly on the bottle 14 far enough for the base 6 to clear the bottom of said bottle. The frame 5 is then swung downwardly to position the base 6 beneath the bottle, the inwardly curved upper portions 8 of the arms 7 being sufl'iciently resilient to yield and receive the upper portion of said bottle therebetween. When this is done, the band 11 snaps into the offsets 12' and the bottle is moved downwardly in said band until it rests on the base 6 between the flanges or lips 9. The upper end portions 8 of the arms 7 engage the shoulder portion 16 of the bottle 14 under tension and retain said bottle firmly in the holder.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed. I
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A bottle holder comprising a substantially U-shaped frame including a base engageable beneath a bottle and further including a pair of spaced, opposed, upstanding resilient arms for receiving the bottle therebetween, said arms comprising outwardly extending, substantially U- shaped intermediate portions and terminating in inwardly curved upper end portions yieldingly engageable with the upper portion of the bottle, and a substantially square band, for the reception of the bottle, pivotally mounted for rotation in a vertical plane in said substantially U- shaped intermediate portions of said arms and adapted to seat transversely therein for frictional retention thereby when in operative position.
