Description

J. KIMEF Bench-Hook.
N 0. 197,144. Patented N 0v. 13, 1877.
' INVENTOR. @704 m -PETERS, PHOTO-UTNOGRAPHER. WASNKNGTON D C ATTORNEYS,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN KDWE, OF VICTOR, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BENCH-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,144, dated November 13, 1877; application filed September 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KIME, of Victor, in the county of Iowa and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bench-Hooks; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my bench-hook, and Fig. 2 is a side viewthereof.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a benchhook, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention.
A represents the top board of the workbench, to the under side of which is fastened a plate, B, formed with a downwardly-proj ecting socket, O. This socket may be made of any desired size, and has a central opening going entirely through it and through the plate, for the passage of the stop D, which is made in the form of a flat bar, with a series of teeth, (1 d, projecting from it on one side.
The stop D passes through a mortise, F, made in the top A, corresponding with the opening through the plate and socket.
In the upper surface of the top A, on each side of said mortise, are made recesses 41 for the teeth (1 of the stop D to sink into when the stop is pushed down, so as to leave the upper surface flush, and prevent any injury to the teeth when the benchhook is not in use.
The stop D can be reversed, so as to be used for either right or left hand planing, and the smooth side of the stop may be used when desired, thereby not marring the work.
The hook D d is held at any height desired by means of a set-screw, Gr, through the side of the socket O, a mortise being made in the front of the work-bench to gain access to said screw.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a work-bench, provided with a mortise, F, in its tapering recesses a a in two of its sides, of the plate B with socket C, reversible hook D, provided with teeth on one of its edges only, and the set-screw G, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN KIME.
