J. KERGHER. PORTABLE HORIZONTAL BAR.
INVENTOR J. fiercfieif APPLICATION FILED NOV. 3, 1905.

ATTORNEYS throng ofthe other casting removed,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 28, 1906.
A li ati n fil d November 3, 1905. Serial No. 285,774.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, JOHN KEROHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Portable Horizontal Bar, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in portable horizontal bars, and has for its obj eet to provide a bar that is very simple and cheap in construction and one that can be placed in the ordinary oor.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bar so constructed that it can be adjusted to any height desired in a very few moments.
A further object of my invention is to provide castings which can be secured to the door-frame in such a manner that they will be out of the way and so constructed that the bar can be easily put in place and securely locked therein.
With these objects in view my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of. parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the door-frame, showing my bar in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the cast ings removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the is a section the casting, showing the bar in place. Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the castings. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the bar. 7 is a detail view of the plate, showing the lug and pin.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the ordinary door-frame, to which my improved bar is adapted to be attached. To one side of the frame I secure a metal casting B by screws passing through the openings B arranged therein. The casting is provided with space-sockets B for the purpose hereinafter set forth. To the other side of the frame I secure the casting Cby screws passing through openings 0 formed therein. This casting is provided with elongated space-sockets C in alinementwith the sockets of the other casting. These sockets are provided with cut-out portions C leading out to. one side of the casting and through which the lockingiplate attached. Fig. 4
Fig.
reduced end D of the metal bar D is adapted to enter the socket.
Arranged on the casting is a metal plate E, provided with elongated openings E, having cut-out portions E leading out to one side.
This plate is provided with slots E through which bolts C carried by, the casting 0, passes and allows the plate to work up and down and is provided with a hook member E formed on the lower end of the plate, by means of which the plate can be raised when desired. The upper end of the plate is provided with an inwardly-projecting perforated lug E provided with a pin C adapted to work in the opening 0 formed in the casting 0. The pin is surrounded by coil-springs C, which has the tendency to shove the plate downwardly and works in the slot formed in the casting under the opening C. 7
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a pair of castings, provided with spaced sockets, one of said castings being provided with passage-ways leading into said sockets, of a bar adapted to lit in said sockets, and a spring-actuated locking-plate arranged on said casting, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the-kind described, the
combination with a door-frame, of castings secured to said frame, sockets formed in said castings, a bar adapted to be secured in said sockets, and a plate provided with openings having out-out portions leading therefrom adapted to lock said bars in said sockets, for the purpose described.
3. In a device of the kind described, the combination with castings provided with sockets, one of the castings having cut-out portions leading to one side, of a plate slidably mounted on said castings, provided with openings having cut-out portions leading out to the side, and adapted to be shoved in and out of alinement with the cut-out portions of the casting, a bar provided with a reduced end, adapted to slide through the cut-out portions ofthe casting and plate, and means carried by said casting for shoving the plate downwardly, for the purpose described.
JOHN KERCHER.
