Description

(No Model.)
H. E. HATCH.
FLOOR CLAMP.
No. 299,220. Patented May 27, 1884.
NITED STATES A'rnNr HIRAM E. HATCH, OF DEXTER, MAINE.
FLOOR-CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,220, dated May 27,, 1884.
Application filed January 11, 1884.
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, HIRAM E. HATCH, of Dexter, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and usefil Improvements in Mechanical Powers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure shows an isometrical perspective of my invention.
My invention consists of a mechanicalpowor more particularly adapted for a floor-set, but capable of use for a variety of purposes. It will be readily understood by reference to annexed drawing, in which a a represent the boards of a floor, and b the sub-floor.
At 0 is a metallic block, provided with steel teeth projecting downward and backward, and adapted to enter and take hold upon the floor 1), giving a purchase, while d shows a second block, which acts against the boards to be set up jointed to the block 0.
At a e are straps ff, which at their other ends are pivoted to a lever, g, at the point h, forming a toggle-joint.
At i i are shown two rods secured to the block 01 and passing backward through openings in the block 0, and sliding therein.
Atj is a ratchet pivoted to or between the l (No model.)
straps f f, and passing upward through a mortised opening in the lever g, which lever is provided with a spring, 7c, tending to lock the ratchet in position.
The operation of the device will be apparent. The block 0 having been fixed in position, the block (I is brought to bear upon the board to be set, when by pressing upon the lever 9 all the necessary power can be secured, while the spring k locks it in position.
It is evident that my invention can be varied. somewhat in matters of detail without departing from its spirit--as, for instauce-by using one rod, 5, or one strap, f, instead of two.
WVhat I claim as my invention is y The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the block 0, provided with teeth adapted to hold it in position, the sliding block d, the rods i z, secured to said block d, and sliding in openings in the block 0, the lever g, pivoted to block d, the straps f f, pivoted both to the block 0 and lever g, the ratchet j, operating to hold the lever in position, and the spring k, serving to hold said ratchet in place.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this December, 1883.
HIRAM E. HATCH.
