3 Claims.

The present invention relates to a bed attachment for use particularly in show windows or on the display floors of furniture stores and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device for improving the display oi mattresses and springs.

Another very important object of the invention is to provide a bed attachment of the aforementioned character in the form of a support for the mattress and bed spring, said support being adjustable for permitting the mattress and spring to be displayed at substantially any desired angle or inclination within a given range.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a display attachment for beds of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, inconspicuous and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:-

Figure l is a view in side elevation, showing a display attachment in accordance with the present invention mounted on a bed.

Figure 2 is a view in vertical transverse section through the bed, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure l and looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.

Figure 3 is an elevational view of the device, showing the same mounted on the bed rail, said rail being shown in section.

Figure 4 is a view in side elevation, showing the invention removed from the bed.

Figure 5 is a detail view in perspective of the upper section of the support.

Figure 6 is a detail View in perspective of the lower section of the support.

Figure '7 is a detail view in perspective of the member which receives the bed spring.

.eferring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 1 designates generally a conventional metallic bed, said bed including the usual angle iron side rails 2. The reference numeral 3 designates a conventional bed spring upon which is mounted a mattress 4. It may be well to here mention that a pair of the attachments constituting the invention is used on each bed, one on each side rail 2, as illustrated to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawlIlgS.

The embodiment of the present invention which has been illustrated comprises a support which is designated generally by the reference numeral 5. The support 5 includes an angular upper section 6 and a lower section '7, said sections having series of openings 8 therein for registry with each other for receiving bolts 9 for adjustably securing said sections together, the bolts 9 being equipped with wing nuts 10.

At its lower end, the section 7 of the support 5 formed thereon a substantially U-shaped lateral extension 11 for the reception of the horizontal leg of the bed rail and which terminates in a depending end portion 12 which is adapted to bear against the vertical leg of the bed rail, as illustrated to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawings. A set screw 13 is provided in the lower portion of the U-shaped extension 11 for clamping engagement with the bed rail.

The inwardly projecting arm 14 of the upper section 2 is inclined toward the foot of the bed and has formed therein a slot 15. Mounted on the arm 14 of the upper section 6 is a substantially U-shaped bracket 16 for the reception of the bed spring 3. A threaded shank or stud 17 extends from the bracket 16 through the slot 15 and has threaded thereon a winged clamping nut 18 for frictionally securing said bracket 16 in adjusted position on the arm 14. As will be un- I derstood, the shank or stud 1'? is operable in the slot 15.

In use, a pair of the supports 5 are mounted on the side rails 2 of the bed 1 adjacent the head of said bed, as best seen in Figure 1 of the drawings. As hereinbefore stated, the supports are secured on the bed rails through the medium of the clamping screws 13. With the upper sections 6 of the supports adjusted as desired on the lower sections '7, the bed spring 3 is mounted in position, the head. end thereof being engaged in the substantially U-shaped, adjustable brackets 16. The foot end of the spring rests on the bed. The mattress 4 is then placed on the spring 3 and the display is completed. In addition to being used as a display attachment, the invention may also be used in hospitals, etc. for supporting a bed bottom at an inclination.

It is believed that the many advantages of a bed attachment constructed in accordance with 105 the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the in vention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangem ment of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. A bed attachment of the class described comprising a support, said support including adjustably connected upper and lower sections, means for securing the lower section to a side rail of the bed, a laterally projecting arm on the upper section of the support, and a substantially U-shaped bracket adjustably mounted on the arm for the reception of a bed spring.

2. A bed attachment of the class described comprising a support, said support including a pair of upper and lower sections, means for adjustably securing the sections together, the lower section comprising a substantially U-shaped, lateral extension for the reception of a side rail of the bed, said extension terminating in a depending end portion for abutting engagement with the side rail, a clamping screw threadedly mounted in the extension for-engagement with the side rail, the upper section of the support including a laterally projecting arm having a slot therein, a substantially U-shaped bracket adjustably mounted on the arm for the reception of a bed spring, a threaded shank depending from the bracket through the slot, and a winged clamping nut threaded on the shank and engageable with the arm for frictionally securing the bracket in adjusted position.

3. A bed attachment of the class described comprising a support including upper and lower sections, means for adjustably securing the sections together, means on the lower section for connection with a side rail of the bed, the upper section comprising a laterally projecting arm inclined toward the foot of the bed, said arm having a slot therein, a substantially U-shaped bracket adjustably mounted on the arm, a threaded shank on the bracket projecting through the slot, and a winged clamping nut threaded on the shank and engageable with the arm for frictionally securing the bracket in adjusted position.
