Description
L 'CLEOFE April 17, 1934.
LEGGING Original Filed April 27, 1932 nvenlor wwm ,/qllorney Patented Apr. 17, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application April 27, 1932, Serial No. 607,859 Renewed December 19, 1933 9 Claims.
The present invention relates to a legging which is particularly intended for use by infantrymen and cavalrymen and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a legging embodying novel means through the medium of which the same may be expeditiously put on or taken oi.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a legging of the aforementioned character having on its lower end extension flaps which kare adapted to be turned in when it is desired not to use the same, in which position said flaps will be invisible` Other objects of the invention are to provide leggings of the character described which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable in use, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:-
Figure 1 is a view in elevation, looking at the outer side of a legging constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a View in side elevation showing the legging as it appears in use, viewed from the inner side of the leg.
Figure 3 is a view showing the legging as it `appears in use, as it appears on the outer side of the leg.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it Will be seen that the embodiment of the legging constituting the present invention which has been illustrated comprises a body of suitable material which is designated generally by the reference numeral 1, said body including the sections 2 which are stitched together, as at 3. The reference numeral 4 designates a suitable binding at the top of the legging.
The sides of the legging are adapted to be detachably secured together by the separable fasteners 5 through the medium of a slidable operator 6. The fasteners 5 extend from the lower end of the body 1 to a point in spaced relation to the upper end thereof. Above the fasteners 5, a buckle 7 is secured on one side of the body 1 for connection with a strap 8 on the other side of said body l. On the lower end portion of the body 1, a ap 9 is provided on one side portion, said flap having a snap fastener element 10 mounted thereon for engagement with a companion fastener element 11 on the other side portion of the body 1. When the legging is in use, the flap 9 provides a cover and protector for the sliding op` erator 6. It may be well to here state that the split in the legging is on the outer side of the leg of the wearer.
Foldable on the lower end .of the body l are the flaps 12 which are adapted to be folded upwardly between the body 1 and the shoe or which may extend downwardly over the shoe when the legging is in use. The flaps shown are three in number. A strap 13 is connected to the intermediate flap for connectionl with a buckle 14 which is mounted on an adjacent fiap. The element 13 provides an instep stra-p, as indicated in broken lines in Figure 2 of the drawing. Coacting snap fastener members 15 are provided on the strap lf3 and on an adjacent portion of the body 1 for securing the intermediate flap 12 in folded position, in which position the strap 13 extends upwardly between the body l and the leg of the wearer.
It is believed that the many advantages of a legging constructed in Aaccordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and al though the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to Vbe understood that changes in the rdetails -of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which Will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
