V Referring particularly to the drawing the wrathmay be'used forretainingaruler and m 10 des gna M1 integral piece f pencil, respectively, as illustrated -in:-Fig. 5. fabric material preferably selected to match SpaQdgtfaps'Qfi.and ge -di d. around 1 a coat and the numeral 11 designates a sheet the front and rear Walls of the bagnndar of water proof fabric such as rubberized of sufiieient1 gth: f t d Over th fl 45 cloth. These two layers of material are subthereof and meet end to end as shown in Figwos stantially, rectangular in shape and are 7. These straps are stitched to the front and placed one on top of the other in superimrear walls of the bag and are provided at posed relation. The layers 10 and 11 are their extremities with catch elements 27 and stitched together along their top and bottom 28 which are adapted to interlock for retainedges as illustrated at 12 and 13 and the sides ing the flap 16 in closed position. An exten- 10o 'sion 29 is secured to the upper edge of the bag and is provided With a snapfastener element 30 adapted to engage a snap fastener element 31 on the outer surface of the flap '16 for retaining theentranceto the pockets 23 and 24 closed. The snap fastener 31 may be provided on the strip 22 if desired. A handle 32 isattached to the lower end of the bag to permit the same to be conveniently carried.
It should be understood that books and papers may be carried in the compartment 15 and protected from the Weather by the lining 11 and that a childs hand may be kept'warm in muff compartment bounded by the fur member 17.
In the modified form of my invention the vconstruction is identical to that described above except that'in place of stitching the edge portions of the superimposed layers 10 and 11 together, snap fasteningelements 33 are provided on the inner and outer sides of I the Walls'of the bag in reg'istering position so as to permitthe bag to be folded With the. Water proof material or the fabric material externally positioned.
Having thusfully shown and described an embodiment of my invention, What is desired v to be secured by Letters Patent of the United Statesv is 1. In a device of the class described, a
Waterproof layer of material, a fabric layer of material disposed in superimposed relation thereon, said layers of material having I a muff element secured therebetween, and snap fasteners on the edges of both of said layers adapted to retain the same in folded position for providing a book bag compartment between the adjacent folded portions thereof, said superimposed layers" being adaptedtobe folded With either layer thereof positioned outwardly and to be retained in either of said folded positions bysaid snap fasteners.
,2. In a device of the class described, a layer of material, a second layer material 'disposed in superimposed relation thereon,
said layers of material having a muff'element secured therebetween, and fasteners on the edges of both of said layers'adapted to res tain the same in folded position'for provid ing a book bag compartmentbetween the adjacent folded portions thereof, said superimposed layers being adapted to be folded .With either layerthereof positioned outwardly and to be retained in either of said folded positionsby said snap fasteners.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
