WORKBOX Perlita Jordan de Castro-Barberena, New York,
Application April 29, 1933, Serial No. 668,516
6 Claims. (Cl. 223-53) This invention relates to improvements in workboxes of the kind adapted to contain spools of sewing thread and other articles for use in the art of sewing.
An object of my invention is to provide an improved workbox having therein a plurality of independent spool holders which are designed to removably contain a number of spools of sewing thread and to hold the same in such spaced positions that the spools may freely turn to permit the strands of thread therefrom to be drawn through openings provided in the sides of the box without danger of causing tangles to be formed.
Another object of my invention is to provide a workbox of the kind just characterized having a plurality of independent thread cutters mounted on its sides, the said cutters each being adapted to hold a separate strand of thread in a position to be readily grasped when it is desired to draw out a new piece or length.
Other objects more or less apparent will present themselves or will be specifically pointed out in the description to follow:
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a workbox constructed in accordance with my invention, showing a part broken away and in section;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the box with the cover removed;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a box of any suitable shape and size, having a lid 2 fitting thereon. The interior of the box is divided into a plurality of compartments by partitions 3, the two central compartments being adapted for use in holding sewing articles such as scissors, needles or the like.
Arranged in the two longitudinally disposed compartments which are located adjacent the opposite sides of the box, are two sets of inverted U-shaped containers or holders 4. The containers 4 of each set are positioned in alignment, with the ends of their legs resting on the bottom of the box 1. The open sides of the containers 4 of each set are positioned in close proximity to one of the partitions 3 and the adjacent side of preferably of different size so that spools of various dimensions may be steadily held therein.- Each of the containers at opposite corners thereof is provided with openings 5 which enable a person to readily grasp and remove the container for the purpose of changing spools or substituting one spool for another. The containers are each provided with a centrally disposed eyelet 6 through which a strand of thread from a spool located in the container may be pulled. The opposite sides of the box 1 at points adjacent each: container are provided with suitable eyelet openings within which 'wear-eyes 7 are located. The wear-eyes each serve to secure a plate 8 against a side of the box, each plate having a sharp turned. up nib 9 which enables a piece of thread to be severed from a strand coming from a box.
My improved workbox will be found to be ex- I ceptionally convenient, and it is obvious that the form, proportions, dimensions and minor details of construction may be varied without in the least departing from the nature or spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device of the kind described comprising a box having a plurality of holes in its sides, and a plurality of individual spool containers removably located in the box, the containers being positioned with their sides in friction engagement withone another, each container having parts cut away at opposite corners.
2. A device of the kind described comprising a box having thread openings in its sides, and a plurality of inverted U-shaped spool containers removably positioned in the box in frictional engagement with one another, each container having a thread opening therein.
3. A device of the kind described comprising 195 a box having thread openings in its sides, and a pluralityof inverted U-shaped spool containers removably positioned in the box in frictional engagement with one another, each container having a thread opening in its top side and one or more finger openings at its sides.
4. A device of the kind described comprising a box having one or more partitions therein, a plurality of inverted U-shaped spool containers po- F sitioned in the box with the ends of their legs resting on the bottom of the box and their said legs in frictional engagement with one another, the said containers being positioned in alignment with their opposite open sides closed by a side of 6. A device of the kind described comprising a box having a partition therein, a plurality of aligned spool containers located in the box between the partition and a side of the box, the said containers being in frictional engagement with one another and each container having a part cut away for the insertion of a persons finger, each container having a thread opening therein, and the box having a plurality of thread openings therein.
