WORK-BOX R SIMILAR RECEPTAGLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2, 1919.
Application filed January 14, 1919. Serial No. 271,063.
' Jerome, in the county of Yavapai and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Improvements in Work-Box or Similar Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sewing cabinets, the object being to provide a work box or receptacle adapted to be included in the cabinet of a sewing machine and having compartments therein for containing articles used in sewing, whereby the said articles may be kept in proper position, so as to be at all times handy for use.
To this end the invention comprises a receptacle provided with separate compartments adapted to contain sewing thread, needle and pin cushions, spools of threads, thimbles and bobbins, the compartments being so arranged that the number of the thread upon the spools and bobbins may be easily determined.
The invention also includes novel means for maintaining the bobbins in separated relation in their respective positions, so that a bobbin containing a thread of the required number may be easily found and placed upon the shuttle of the machine.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a portion of a sewing machine cabinet illustraping the preferred position of the receptac e;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same removed from the cabinet; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the top of the sewing machine cabinet is shown at 10, the side drawers at 11 and the receptacle or drawer which constitutes the subject matter of the present invention at 12.
This receptacle is divided into a plurality of separate compartments, the compartment 13 located at one end of the drawer being provided with a cushion for receiving needles and pins and the like. The central compartment 14 is divided into a plurality of individual compartments 15, each of which is provided with a centrally arranged pin 16, for the reception of a spool of thread indicated at 17 As shown the edge of each of the individual compartments has indicated thereon as at 18 the number of the thread wound upon the spool.
At the opposite end of the receptacle there is provided a compartment 19 for the reception of the shuttle bobbins 20. This compartment is provided in the bottom thereof with a plurality of spaced sockets 21 which is adapted to receive one trunnion of the bobbin as illustrated in Fig. 3. Spaced above each of the sockets 21 is a pair of hinged members 22, each of the said members being hinged on a pin 23 disposed longitudinally of each side of the compartment 19. The meeting edges of the members 22 are notched to provide openings 24 for the purpose of receiving the other pintle of the bobbins 20, with the said members resting upon the bobbin flange. The edge of the compartment 19 is also provided with numbers as shown at 25, so that the number of the thread upon each of the bobbins may be determined. This is especially useful when it is desired to use the same number of thread on both the spool and shuttle. By taking hold of the projecting end of the pintle of the bobbin, the latter may be readily lifted from this position, or may be replaced by raising the members 22 and inserting the bobbin and letting it then fall in position upon the bobbin flange.
The thimble compartment which is indicated at 26, is-provided with a partition 27 spaced above the bottom thereof and having an opening 28 therein for the reception of the thimble this opening being of the proper size to permit of the engagement of the flange which surrounds the open end of the thimble with the shoulder formed by the surrounding edge of the opening. An additional compartment 29 is also provided for basting thread, darning needles and the like.
The invention is susceptible. of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is reserved to make such changes as will properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is articles used in sewing and including individual spool compartments, a pin or needle cushion compartment, a thimble compartment and a bobbin compartment and means including gravity controlled notched spacing members for maintaining the bobbins in separated relation.
2. A receptacle comprising a plurality of separate compartments adapted tocontain articles used in sewing and including individual spool compartments, a pin or needle cushion compartment, a thimble compartment and a bobbin compartment and means including pivoted spacing members having notches therein for the reception of the bobbin pintles for maintaining said bobbins in separated relation.
3. A receptacle com rising a plurality of separate compartments adapted to contain articles used in sewing and including inclividual spool compartments, a pin or needle cushion compartment, a thimble compartment and a bobbin compartment, a plurality of spaced sockets in the bottom of the bobbin" compartment and a pair of notched pivoted plates spaced above each oi": the sockets for maintaining the bobbin in separated relation.
A receptacle comprising a plurality of separate compartments adapted to contain articles used in sewing and including individual spool compartments, a pin or needle cushion compartment, a thiinble compartment and bobbin compartment and a partition spaced above the bottom of the thimble compartment and having an opening therein to receive the thimble, wherein the edges of the opening will form an annular shoulder for engagement with the bead upon the thimble. V
In testimony whereof I ai'iix my si nature.
