LADYS WORK-TABLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,069, dated April 27, 1880.

Application filed May '7, 1879.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR R. STEIN,- of th city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies W'ork-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1. represents a top view of my improved ladys working-table, one half of which isshown in closed position, while the other half is shown open and partly broken out to exhibit the interior arrangement; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the table, partly in section, through the box top and bobbin receptacle, with the top closed, on line as 00, Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention has for its object to furnish for ladies use an improved working-table that may be used for a number of difierent purposes, such as a playing table, toilet table, work-stand, reel, &c., and which forms at the same time a convenient and ornamental table for the parlor or sitting-room.

The invention consists of a ladys workingtable having a revolving box-top that is arranged with socket-holes in the center partition and side walls for the insertion of detachable pegs, around which the skeins are placed for unreeling.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the supporting-stand of my improved ladys working-table, and B the box-top of the same.

The stand A is finished in any suitable manner, and the top made either of square, round, octagonal, or other shape.

The box top B is supported on annular shoulders a of a center post, 0, of the stand, and may be turned thereon or secured rigidly by means of a clamping-nut, a, that screws on the threaded upper end of the center post. p The clamping-nut a is countersunk into a central partition, I), of the box-top.

By tightening the clamp-nut the box-top is firmly secured in position, while by loosening the same it may be readily turned around and used, in connection with pegs d, that are inserted into top or side holes, (1, of the box and partition, as a reel for unwinding skeins of different lengths.

The central partition, I), has a number of socket-holes, 01, so that they are readily adjusted for the length of the skeins.

Below the box-top B is arranged a separate cup-shaped receptacle, C, that turns freely on a shoulder of the center post, and serves to hold the bobbins and other articles, so as to prevent their rolling about the floor.

At the under side of the box-top are guided slides D, which may be drawn out whenever required for use.

The top E of the table is made detachable from the box and constructed of three parts of a narrow center piece, 6, and of two hinged side sections, E.

The center strip is secured by means of fixed pins f in sockets f of the center partition of the box-top, while the hinged sections maybe locked to the box, so as to close the same.

A checker-board is arranged on the upper side of the top, and the hinges of the side sections are countersunk, so as not to be in the way of the checkers or figures in playing.

At the under side of one or both sections are arranged looking-glasses g, so that by throwing one of the sections into upright position it may be used for toilet purposes.

The interior of the box-top is divided by radial partitions it into a number of spaces for storing therein the spools, needles, shears, checkers, and chess-figures, the pegs forming a reel, toilet articles, hand-work, 850.

The table may be readily changed so as to be used either as a playing-table, sewing-table, reel, toilet-table, 860- The side walls of the box-top are arranged with small holes for drawing out the thread from the spools without removing them from their pegs.

When the table is used as a playing or toilet table the slides may be drawn out for placing articles thereon. In this way the table serves for a number of useful purposes, while forming at the same time a neat and ornamental piece of furniture for the parlor or boudoir.

In a ladys working-table, the combination 5 of the revolving box-top having socket-holes in the center partition and side walls with detachable pegs to form a reel for holding skeins of different length, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
