Description

J'. MULCHAHEY.
DRAWERS FOR SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
STH u WITNESSES z for storing miscellaneous articles.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN MULCHAHEY, OF NEWBURYPORT, MASSAGHUSETCIS.`
IMPRVEMENT IN DRAWERS FOR SEWING-MACHIN TABLES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent N o. l84.100, dated November 7, 1876; application led May 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN MULCHAHEY, of Newburyport, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Attachment to Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a top view of my improved attachment to sewing-machine tables, shown in open position, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on line c c, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to an improved swinging drawer applied'to the under side of the table of a sewing-machine, for the purpose of storing sewing-machine needles, spools, and otherl articles.
The invention consists of a swinging drawer or box, arranged with a needle-tray, gaging` devices, a spool-receptacle, and aneedle-sharpv enel'.
In thedr'awing, A representsa swinging or sliding' drawer or box, that is preferably pivoted at one corner to the under side of the table of any sewing-machine, either in irontof the actuating mechanism or at any other suitable point of the table.
The drawer is divided by a longitudinal partition, B, into two receptacles, of which one is provided with a number of upright posts or pins, C, for arranging thereon the spools of different sizes of threads, while the other receptacle is arranged at its upper part with a detachable tray, D, having a number of lateral dishings or concave indentions for the storage of the different sizes of sewing-machine needles. The space below the tray may be used The tray D is covered by a hinged lid, D', which is label, indicating the kind of thread to be used for each size of needle.
The side wall of the drawer or box A is arranged with a number of gage-slots, E, by which the number of any sewing-machine needle may be readily determined, and the same be placed into the proper section of the tray. This forms a very convenient feature of my improved drawer, as it admits the ready assorting of the needles, and'furnishes, at the same time, the number ol" the thread to be used for each needle.
A needle-sharpenin g device, F, is supported in suitable holders at the end of' the box, and allows the sharpening of the needle-points. The swinging box or drawer may also be provided with a bracket or holder forI the oiler, and combines thus a number ot' convenient and useful devices that are of considerable advantage in the use of sewing-machines.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A swinging drawer or box for sewingmachine tables, provided with a detachable and covered tray for the dil'erent sizes of needles, and with a spool-receptacle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A swinging drawer or box for sewingmachine tables, having a needle-tray with needle-gaging devices for each section of the tray, substantially as set forth.
3. In aswinging drawer for sewing-machine tables, a detachable needle-tray, a spoel-receptacle, and a needle-sharpening device, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN MULCHAHEY.
