atentecl Aug. 3, '1948 ENIBROIDERY FLOSS HOLDER AND I DISPENSER v Dorace E. Motz, Van Nuys, Calif. Application 12, 194.6, Serial N0. 661,466
2 Claims. (Cl. 223-107) This invention relates to a holder designed for use in holding skeins of embroidery floss, the primary object of the invention being to provide a container which is divided into a plurality of compartments for the reception of skeins of embriodery floss, means being provided for holding the skeins intact and against tangling, when the iioss is being pulled therefrom.
Another object of the invention is to provide a container of this character wherein the container is constructed of transparent material to the end that the skeins of floss may be viewed at all times.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the floss container cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention, the cabinet or container being shown as secured to the base or support in the form of a, chest having a single drawer.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the floss cabinet or container as in its closed position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the base or support for the oss cabinet, the base or support in the present showing being in the form of a cabinet having a single drawer indicated by the reference character 6.
The embroidery floss container or cabinet includes a box-like main portion 'I which may be constructed of any suitable material, and a hinged cover 8 constructed of transparent material, so that the contents of the container or cab-inet may be viewed at all times.
Disposed within the container or cabinet, are spaced parallel partitions 9 that extend to a point adjacent to the center of the main portion. In alignment with the partitions 9, are partitions l0 that extend forwardly from the rear wall of the box-like main portion, the adjacent ends of the partitions 9 and I0 being spaced apart, as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawing.
Extending transversely of the main portion 8, and disposed within the space between the adjacent ends of the partitions 9 and I0, is a length of sponge rubber material Il which provides a rest for the central portions of the skeins of embroidery floss indicated at I2, which are supported between the partitions. These partitions are so arranged that compartments are provided for the embroidery floss to hold the skeins of embroidery floss separated at all times.
Secured to the under surface of the cover, and extending transversely thereof, is a length of sponge rubber material |'2 which is so arranged that when the cover is moved to its closed position, the rubber material I2 will move into clamping relation with the rubber material ll, clamping a skein of embroidery floss therebetween.
The length of rubber material Il and I2 are so arranged that they will contact with the skeins of embroidery floss directly over the embroidery oss tubes and will not damage or tangle the floss.
The front wall I3 of the main portion of the embroidery iioss cabinet is provided with notches I4 that extend inwardly 4from the upper edge thereof, the notches being disposed directly opposite to the embroidery iioss compartments of the cabinet, so that the embroidery floss may be pulled therethrough.
The notches I5 are formed along the front edge of the cover and register with the notches I4, in providing openings for the embroidery floss.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a cabinet for containing skeins of embroidery oss of various colors, the embroidery floss being pulled through the openings in the front of the cabinet.
It will also be noted that because the cover is constructed of transparent material, the desired colored floss may be drawn through the openings for use.
The latch member indicated by the reference character I6, is provided on the cover and is adapted to engage within the notch I1 formed in the front wall of the cabinet, to secure the cover in its closed position.
What is claimed is:
1. An embroidery floss cabinet, comprising a main portion, partitions disposed within the main portion and extending inwardly from the front wall thereof, partitions extending forwardly from the rear wall of the cabinet, the adjacent inner ends of the partitions being spaced apart, said partitions providing compartments for the reception cf skeins of embroidery iioss, a clamping member supported within the space between the adjacent ends of the partitions, a hinged cover for the cabinet, a clamping member carried by the hinged cover and cooperating with the clampportion, the adjacent inner ends rof the partl0 tions being spaced apart, a length of sponge rub- -ber material secured within the main portion ofthe cabinet within the space between `the adjacent ends of the partitions, a hinged cover adapted to close the main portion of the cabinet, a length of sponge rubber secured to the cover and adapted to move to a positiondirectly over xthe sponge rubber mounted Within the main portion of the cabinet, clamping skeins of embroidery oss therebetween, and said cabinet having openings in the front wall thereof, through which embroidery floss is pulled for use.
