Description
R. JANZ TACKLE BOX April 11; 1950 Filed 0012.9, 1947 Fig. 2.
I nventor Robert Jan:
Patented Apr. 11, 195% UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE TACKLE Box Robert J anz, Plevna, Mont. Application October 9, 1947, Serial No. 778,924
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tackle boxes and the primary ob ject of the present invention is to provide a tackle box so designed as to provide a plurality of article holding compartments and including novel and improved means for ventilating the compartments.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a tackle box of transparent material including a rotary member having a plurality of compartments and novel and improved means for rotating the member to a selected position for accessibility to a selected compartment.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a tackle box including novel and improved means whereby the same will float upon a fluid medium should the same accidentally slip from a supporting surface into the fluid medium.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a tackle box that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tackle box constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially through the centcr of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal horizontal sectional View taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cylindrical inner receptacle used in conjunction with the present invention, and showing the closure for one of its compartments being in an open position; and,
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the manner in which the closure means for the cylindrical inner receptacle are retained in a closed position.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral l0 represents a substantially cylindrical container closed at each end and which is provided with a flat bottom wall I2 whereby the same may be conven- 2 Claims. (CI. 43-55) iently supported on a flat surface without movement thereon.
' Opposing the bottom wall I2, is an entrance opening l4 that is normally closed by a pair of arcuate closures l6 and I8, that are hinged to the respective longitudinal edges 20 and 22 of the container. The abutting edges 24 and 26 of the closures I6 and 18 are provided with a suitable catch or locking mechanism 28 for normally retaining the closures in a closed position relative to the entrance opening 14. As is conventional in such locking mechanisms, a'spring actuated push button 30 is provided whereby the closures may be pivoted to an open position.
Fixedly secured to the respective side walls, end walls and the bottom wall of the container I0, is a pair of inclined longitudinal partitions 32 and 34 that divide the container into air chambers 36 and 38 and will retain the container in a floatable position in a fluid medium.
Rigidly secured to the partitions 32 and 34, is a resilient arcuate member 40 that embraces a cylindrical inner receptacle 42. This receptacle 42 is provided with an axial tube 44, the ends 46 of which project outwardly from the ends of the receptacle and are provided with perforated closure plates 48. Air vents 50 are also provided throughout the tube 44 for ventilating the interior of the receptacle 42. A plurality of longitudinally extending radially disposed partitions 52 are provided in the receptacle 42 to divide the same into a plurality of chambers or compartments 54, each having an entrance opening that is normally closed by an arcuate hinged closure 56 having a conventional locking mechanism 58, that includes a spring urged latch plate 60 that engages a shoulder or lug 62 carried by each of the partitions 52. A push button 64 is provided on the mechanism 58 for retracting the latch plate Bl], so that the closures may be raised to an open position.
The tube 44 is provided with a longitudinal slot 65 that communicates with the interior of one of the chambers 54 so that access may be had into the interior of the tube 44 through the slot 65.
Handles or resilient arcuate spring elements 66 are carried by each of the closures 56, so that the receptacle 42 may be rotated within the body and member 40. In order to retain the receptacle 42 in a selected rotated position, the arcuate spring arms 66 carried by the receptacle bear upon the member 40 and snap into a recess or longitiudinal seat 68 provided in the member 40,
as the chambers selectively oppose the entrance opening in the container.
A suitable handle 10 including supports 12 are fixedly secured to one of the closures, for example closure 1 8, and the longitudinal axis of the handle 10 aligns the abutting edges 24 and 26 of the closures to facilitate a convenient balancing of the container during carrying thereof.
It is also preferred, that the chamber 54 be divided into a plurality of separate or individual chambers by a transverse partition 14.
.In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the con.- struction, operation and advantages of the device A more detailed description is deemed unnecessary.
accordingly It is to be understood, however, that even,
though there is herein'shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention thesame is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended ,by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having descr bed e n e t h t is claimed as new is:
1. A tackle box comprising a substantially cylindrical container having a plurality of entrance openings, a hinged closure for each of said openings, means for retaining said closures in a normally closed position relative to the openings, an axial tube carried by said container and having a plurality of air vents, the ends of said tube extending outwardly from the ends of said container, and perforated closure plates rigidly 35 2, ,744
carried by the outer ends of said tube.
entrance 2. A tackle box comprising a substantially cylindrical container having a flat portion in its side Wall to constitute a bottom wall, a cylindrical receptacle rotatably mounted in said container, partitions dividing said receptacle into a plurality of chambers, hinged closures for each of the chambers, means for retaining said receptacle in a selected rotated position, an axial perforated tube carried by said receptacle for ventilating eachof said chambers, the ends of said tube projecting outwardly from the ends of the receptacle, a perforated closure provided at each end of said tube, said container having an entrance opening, further hinged closures for the opening, and further partitions mounted in said container to divide the container into .a plurality of float compartments.
